It took hardly any time at all for Carine Roitfeld to find her footing outside of the Condé Nast empire. The fashion writer and stylist departed suddenly from Vogue Paris in 2010 following a ten-year tenure as editor-in-chief, citing a desire to concentrate on personal projects outside of the notorious magazine’s “gilded bird cage” (though rumors of internal discord abounded). In the two years since her resignation, Carine has stayed true to her vow that leaving the lofty post would not be the death knell of her career; in fact, with numerous freelance styling credits (including two Chanel campaigns), a large-format photo book, and a MAC collection to her name, the iconic Parisian has risen quite impressively from the ashes of her former title. Here’s a first look at Sonia Rykiel‘s upcoming H&M collection, featuring some mighty interesting lingerie. At first, we glanced at the French designer’s signature rose details and those little mesh boy shorts and thought, Not bad! But then we realized that these might be the least logical pieces of underwear. Ever. Unless you enjoy the lumpy, supersized nipple look under your t-shirt.

When it comes to glitter makeup, I can take it or leave it, preferably back in grade school. But all these famous chicks keep wearing crazy eye makeup (Drew Barrymore and Lily Allen spring to mind), and when I recently ran into makeup artist Regina Harris at photographer Marilyn Minter’s studio, I became mega-inspired. Harris was there celebrating Minter’s MAC collaboration and did the makeup for this shot (above) of model Cintia Dicker sporting thick, textured sparkle with not just a hint of Minter’s signature mix of, as Harris puts it, “glamour and deconstruction.” Before we digressed into art speak, I asked Harris what was really on my mind: “How can a grown woman ever pull off glitter in real life?” Keep reading »
