Zergnet: Simply Irresistible

Swagger New York and Italian designer Michele Morricci came up with a bizarro collaboration: fantasy illustrations detailing what some of our fave cartoon characters might wear to New York Fashion Week, and man, is it weird. It’s troubling enough imagining grown-up Lisa Simpson at all, but then to see her yellow-ish body bedecked in sassy Marc Jacobs hot pants and a button down? I’m still not used to the idea of her having knees. Morricci also illustrated Sailor Moon as a whimsical Rodarte fanatic, Daria in practical and chic Prabal Gurung, and perhaps most appropriately, Beavis and Butthead in Jeremy Scott. Because of course they’d wear a designer known for putting fast food on swimsuits and dogs in animal print shoes.

There are so many shows, and not enough hours in the day to possibly go to all of them. Good thing, then, that we’ve got your New York Fashion Week coverage down. We’re not even half way through day two, and there’s already been nearly three dozen shows. We’ve whittled it down to a few of our faves from the second day of shows. Up first: Rachel Comey, who created a collection exuding her signature downtown cool vibe.

New York Fashion Week is underway, and it seems that people are feeling a bit … lukewarm about it. Hey, the times are changing, and so is the face of one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year. With up-to-the-minute news (and clothes) available on the Internet at every turn, is New York Fashion Week losing its relevance? Could it be on its way to a demise, or at least a very heavy change of pace? And would that necessarily be a bad thing?
Fashion Week, which has made its home at Lincoln Center these past few years, has been a staple of the industry for decades. In the last several years, the fashion world has been forced to accommodate the addition of the likes of twitter, tumblr, street style blogs, and instant online shopping to the action. While the internet can be a huge advantage to the industry, the exclusive air of seeing NYFW shows in person is losing some of its cachet. Designers have taken to streaming their fashion shows live so everyone and their cousin can watch from home on the couch. This certainly saves time for the press and allows accessibility for thousands of consumers, but what does it mean for fashion’s power players? When minute-to-minute updates are being tweeted and blogged and instagrammed all over the world, is the live event devalued?
Gorgeous clothes, tons of festivities, star sightings city-wide — what’s not to love about Fashion Week? Well, the prices, for one thing. We might fall madly in love with a dress right off the runway, but we’d be mad to shell out $3,000 for it, no? That’s why we’ve taken to the Internet in search of our favorite catwalk trends on a waaaaaay more reasonable budget.
Today, we’ve stolen this red, pink and white look from Creatures of the Wind’s Spring 2014 show. Details after the jump! Keep reading »
