Many fashion week runway shows are based on some kind of abstract concept or even a dream the designer had. Sophie Theallet’s runway show seems to be based on a recurring dream of mine where I go out in public in a sheer shirt and forget to wear a bra. Oops!
Where most of New York Fashion Week’s entries are respectable, predictable sportswear (Donna Karan) or fluttery feminine gowns (Zac Posen), there’s always one kooky dude you can count on to really blow the whole thing out. Thom Browne’s menswear collections are the epitome of preppy eccentric (though sometimes his menswear runway shows can be pretty wild). But his womenswear? Now that is some crazy stuff.
He’s sent lobster ladies down the runway, and postmodern space ensembles dominated his Spring/Summer 2013 collection. His latest collection seems mega-inspired by Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo, who relishes in creating looks that defy not just expectation, but anatomy. We love how this simultaneously plays with form and references traditional and restrictive Victorian styles.
Plus, he’s one of the few designers who really believes in putting on a frickin’ show. And for that, we applaud him.
I’m a sucker for a beautiful prints, which makes me a happy lady this Fashion Week. From flirty florals to edgy patterns, I’ve been seeing a lot of exquisite prints on jumpsuits, dresses, gowns…pretty much everything.
Two of my absolute favorites are the Victoria by Victoria Beckham long-sleeved dress and Alice + Olivia floral gown (seen above). I would wear the hell out of either one of these bad boys. Which do you like better? Click “vote” below your favorite pick to weigh in!

Gorgeous clothes, tons of festivities, star sightings city-wide — what’s not to love about Fashion Week? Well, the prices, for one thing. We might fall madly in love with a dress right off the runway, but we’d be mad to shell out $3,000 for it, no? That’s why we’ve taken to the Internet in search of our favorite catwalk trends on a waaaaaay more reasonable budget.
Tibi’s known for its button-up and polished sophisticated lady clothes — which is why this ensemble from their Spring 2014 collection surprised and delighted me. It’s so laid back, so “off-duty model” compared to what designer Amy Smilovic usually comes up with. And that makes it an easy look to, uh, emulate. (Or okay, fine, steal.) After the jump, we give you all the pieces you need to pull off this look. Keep reading »
