Nail Polish News Backstage At Costello Tagliapietra

So far, we’re seeing red lips everywhere for fall, but I was especially drawn to the extra sick combination that MAC makeup artist Lisa Butler busted out for Costello Tagliapietra’s Japanese-inspired collection. She blended MAC Russian Red and Lady Danger, two of their most famous Lipsticks with a little Redd Lip Pencil on top for a seriously scarlet triple threat that had me calculating just how many shades of red I could fit onto my own lips. While contemplating this very important decision, I ran into one of my favorite manicurists, Jin Soon, who gave me a sneak peek of a new MAC nail polish that was used on the models’ hands for the shows. “It’s still a secret,” she whispered about the polish that isn’t out yet. Too bad we’ll have to wait for it, but the rad combination of putty grey blended with hints of gold shimmer makes for “mysterious sophistication that’s a little bit edgy” according to Jin, and she should know. We’ll keep you posted with a launch date. A closer look at that lip color, after the jump … Keep reading »

Agyness Deyn Not So Agile

Apparently model and way-cooler-than-I-am It Girl, Agyness Deyn, fell twice while walking the Hope For Haiti Fashion Show yesterday. Well, at least the bruised knees were for a good cause. [2/13/10, NYC] Keep reading »

Spotted: Turbans At Charlotte Ronson

How do we feel about wearing turbans and head scarves for fashion’s sake? Personally, I am pro, and evidently, so is Charlotte Ronson, who sent a number of them down the runway for her boho-chic fall collection. [NYC, 2/12/10] Keep reading »

Wellies, The Official Shoe Of Fashion Week?

As NYC’s snowy winter wonderland turns into hellish puddles of slush, Fashion Week goers have a rough decision to make. Give in to the terrors of not-so-stylish wellies and boots or suck it up and wear heels. This morning, as the first brave fashion souls found their way to the tents in Bryant Park, footwear choices were wide and varied. We spotted Anne Slowey of Elle in Keds comfort, while I chose low-heeled OTK black boots and Erin went for Hunter rain boots. Still, a few crazies were wearing towering stilettos. We’re hoping those girls arrived in boots and changed — at least for the sake of their soles. But c’mon, at what point do you just have to give in to the weather and say screw it? Keep reading »

Cushnie Et Ochs Shows How To Get The Modern Romantic Look

The beauty look at the Cushnie et Ochs fall 2010 fashion show in New York was all about edgy romance — an oxymoron, I know, but actually a fitting description. Nothing about the hair and makeup was perfect. In fact, it was downright disheveled. Yet the chunky tendrils and soft smoky eye still evoked a fairy quality. Find out how you can duplicate this easy and fun look that only requires your fingers as tools, after the jump. Keep reading »

How To Wear A Dress When It’s Cold Out

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicked off this morning with the BCBG Max Azria show, and personally, I kind of have a soft spot for their presentations because they make highly wearable clothes you can actually (or hope to someday) afford. The show notes for BCBG promised a “techno-age urban journey,” which frightened the bejeezus out of me, but it was really just a fancy way of saying versatile fabrics in neutral colors made for layering. (Sigh of relief.) The girls wore long-sleeve knit shirts and cream leggings under swishy, asymmetrical and color-blocked dresses cinched at the waists with belts. It being winter now, it’s a fun styling trick for us girls who like to wear pretty frocks in the cold weather and not freeze. Throw some geometry and sequins in the mix, like designers Max and Lubov Azria did, and you’re ready to party. (We’re sure front row celebs Michelle Williams and Misshapes DJ Leigh Lezark agree.) Check out a few more looks after the jump. Keep reading »
