Quote Of The Day: Cindy Crawford Is Trying To Kill The Magazine Industry

“If you don’t like something, don’t buy it. Don’t buy the magazine if you don’t like what it says. If you don’t like the image a brand is putting out, don’t buy it. What I really don’t agree with is people who complain about it but still support it. You’re giving your power away. If people don’t want skinny models, stop buying the magazine with the skinny model, and believe me those magazines will change fast. It’s business.”

– Supermodel Cindy Crawford recommends boycotting fashion mags that only use skeletal models, making her Conde Nast/Hearst/Hachette Fillipacci enemy number one. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »

Pics Of Heidi Klum As A Kid!

What’s more stimulating than ogling celeb photos? Snaps of the rich and famous before they were! Modelinia has posted a few from Heidi Klum’s album and now we know she is not a natural blonde and, like so many of us plebeians, suffered major fashion missteps back in the day, such as tucking a pastel, geometric-patterned shirt into a pair of yellow sweatpants. (Been there, girl!) Also, and no judgment here, whatsoever, is that a trailer park? Didn’t even know they had those in Germany. A few more, after the jump! Keep reading »

10 Suggestions For Gemma Ward’s Retirement Plans

This just in: Supermodel Gemma Ward’s agent has officially announced that the Australian catwalk queen has retired from the fashion industry! if you’ve noticed, there hasn’t been much of Gemma lately; she’s been absent from magazine covers and, more notably, the past few runway seasons. The reason for her departure? She wasn’t as into modeling “following the death of Heath Ledger, to whom she was romantically tied.” So, yeah, now she’s headed for retirement, at the ripe old age of 22. (Twenty-two!) But word on the web is that her life away from the catwalk is really making a healthy difference. “She was photographed last week in New York wearing a print jacket, shorts and biker boots and looking more like a healthy young woman and less like an emaciated wraith.” (Jeez, harsh much?)

While, I could go on for paragraphs about how frickin’ jealous I am that she can even afford (both financially and career-wise) to give it all up, it’s more fun (and less woe-is-me-sad-sack) to play the what-will-she-do-next game! My very strategic guesses, after the jump. Keep reading »

Watch Models Work It Out For Topshop Holiday Campaign

Models are always going on and on about what hard work photoshoots are, but this behind-the-scenes at Topshop‘s holiday collection sesh with cute photog Max Farago proves for once and for all that it is not quite the backbreaking labor these waifs would have you believe. Anyhoo, all the sparkly sequins, studs, baubles and platforms are making us really excited to buy some fabby cocktail dresses this season … or at least dream about the ones we want. Keep reading »

Your Grandpa Is A Total Supermodel

Fashion houses are getting creative with their models. First we saw kitties modeling United Bamboo dresses and skirts, then a U.K. dog model (with a contract to boot!) … now, the newest “it” models: goofy grandfather types. For their fall/winter 2009 lookbook, UNUSED dressed up the sweetest older man to sell their clothes. That’s him, above. Personally, I love the guy—there are only so many 28-inch-waisted, high-cheekboned male models one can take. Check out more, after the jump! Keep reading »

Miranda Kerr Is Victim Of “Skinny Poses”

Miranda Kerr is the latest model to come under attack for having a super-svelte frame after posing for a swimsuit editorial where some claimed she looked massively underweight. This time, however, Photoshop is not the culprit. “The exaggerated poses for the shoot have made me appear thinner than normal from behind, but I am the same weight and measurements I have maintained for more than three years,” she explained. Hmm …. While insiders claim that the real story is that she shed some extra pounds in a bid to fit into sample-size clothes at the Balenciaga show earlier this month, she not only insists she’s healthy, but she has a message for women everywhere: “I really don’t want girls to think they have to look like me. I want them to nurture themselves and really be the best they can be.” Whatever the case may be, she’s gotta be one hell of a contortionist! [3News] Keep reading »

Why Do We Love To Hate On Thin Models?

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Robin Givhan is no dummy, so she must’ve anticipated the article she wrote for the Washington Post this weekend was bound to generate some controversy. She’s added her two-cents to the fashion world’s skinny model debate drama by essentially saying we love to hate on twiggy ladies because we’re filled with self-loathing for our own fat asses.

Sooo, um, yeah … Keep reading »
