Meet Unlikely Fashion Icon, Kim Jong-II

Here’s how to make a fashion trend “happen” (not): A Communist party press release newspaper names the North Korean leader as a leading international fashion icon. Wha!? Known for his hyper-utilitarian grey uniform, we’re not sure how many folks are copping this trend, though it’s true that the military look is rather hot for spring. But if this unidentified French fashion expert quoted in the article, which recently ran in Rodung Sinmun, is to be believed–”Kim Jong-Il mode which is now spreading expeditiously worldwide is something unprecedented in the world’s history,”–well, who are we to argue? Crave: The Lucky Guide To Mastering Any Style

I can’t wait to pick up the latest issue of Lucky magazine every month because it always presents the best fashion possibilities. One of the things I appreciate about this mag is that the editors don’t think everyone should look alike. Instead, they allow their readers to draw inspiration from different style icons and stylish women. And this is exactly what Editor-In-Chief Kim France and Creative Director Andrea Linett were thinking when they wrote the second Lucky fashion manual, The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style, which features women that have mastered a signature look, like bombshell, rock and roll and Euro chic. These women were asked to pick their favorite and best pieces and explain why they love them. Then the outfits were mixed and matched. This book shows you everything you need to pull off a signature look or just play up the look you’ve already got going. Plus, in true Lucky fashion, it features the best stores across the country and online. [19.80, Amazon] Keep reading »

Fashion Slideshow: Fun (Non-Traditional) Fashion Icons

When it comes to fashion, most celebrities play it safe, wearing what is expected and what has been previously accepted. If Gwyneth needs to walk a red carpet, then her stylist calls up Giorgio Armani for a vintage gown that is sure to turn heads, but not ruffle any feathers. So we decided to put together a slideshow of famous women that have really fun, uniquely-cultivated styles. And sometimes they veer completely left, but that’s what makes them so interesting and admirable. Keep reading »
