Lovers of fashion, lovers of drama, lovers of crazy, lovers of Gina Gershon, lovers of Lifetime original movies: LOOK ALIVE, because “House of Versace,” premiering October 5, has all y’all covered — and in neon animal print and diamond studs, to boot. Donatella Versace as she exists in the material world is a real-life character, so it takes an unbelievably convincing actress to pull off the role without making a caricature of it, and from the looks of this just-released extended preview, Gershon is just the lady to do it. Ahhhhhhh-mazing. Best thing I’ve seen all day. (I mean, besides this.) [via Fashionista]
Diets, man! What a bitch. As a human with a particular fondness for bread, cheese, and meat and a diminutive frame that, presented with the opportunity, will take all of those calories, thank you very much, and keep them forever and ever, I am almost always on some sort of depressing leafy-greens-and-lean-protein restriction. For health, you know? I do it all for health. I’m cautiously assuming that Health is also the reason why Valentino Garavani, the Italian fashion designer formerly responsible for his eponymous house of Valentino and person maybe made of leather, has what strikes me as the saddest eating regimen of all time. Quoth a profile in Harper’s Bazaar:
I try to eat a simple diet: no sugar, no milk, no dairy except goat cheese, no gluten pasta, Bio Rice, no meat, some fish (not the ones with mercury), vegetables, no potatoes, no bread except rice crackers or grissini, one glass of red wine, sugarless sherbet, all sweets made with almond milk and xylitol sweetener, and one coffee a day.
I realize that some people really get off on exclusively consuming food items that are Good For You, and I aspire to one day have the good sense and self-control to be one of these people. I really do! But man, oh man, do I have the secondhand sads for Valentino right now. All that’s left for me to do is to have an extra meat and cheese sandwich today in his honor. [The Gloss]
It’s been a rough few days for women who really love jaunty pearl accessories. Not only did Margaret Thatcher pass away, so did Lilly Pulitzer. Was Lilly Pulitzer a feminist? Yeah. Sure. Probably. Seems like it. She was certainly someone I grew up with, and these are some very specific memories brought to mind by very specific dresses. Read more on The Gloss…
We all adore Nicole Miller for her bold, sexy, chic cocktail dresses which work just as well for the senior prom in your hometown as they do for a high-brow shindig in the big city. It’s her knack for turning out fashion-forward yet wearable pieces that has elevated Miller into full-on American Fashion icon status. Her clothes are worn by red carpet regulars like Angelina Jolie, Jessica Simpson, and Beyonce, while her show during New York Fashion Week attracts hundreds of top fashion editors. So just imagine my sheer joy when I got a chance to chat with the designer herself this week about everything from her busy schedule to the mean girls of fashion! Dig in, after the jump!
