It’s fun to look at men’s fashion show photos, if only to look at the models and their taut bodies. But the guys walking at Gareth Pugh, John Galliano, and Alexander McQueen didn’t look hot. No, they looked scary. In fact, they looked a lot like zombies. Could this be a pop culture trend in the making? Are zombies going to become the new vampires? One pop culture seems to think so. Or maybe the models are just depressed about the grim state of the economy. [NY Mag] Keep reading »

For the most part, men have three color choices when it comes to suits: black, gray, and navy blue. They’ve been able to expand their shirt and tie options from the traditional white, blue, white and blue striped, and white and blue checked over the years, and perhaps the increase in popularity of golf and other country club sports made it more common for men to wear pale pink and purple shirts and ties. Pink has become a much more acceptable color for guys than it was just a few years ago, and it might soon be as acceptable as it was in the early 1900s.
Suits in practically fluorescent shades of pink came down the runways at the Fall 2009 Dolce & Gabbana show, the Spring 2009 Givenchy and Calvin Klein shows. And Refinery 29 spotted men wearing the neon shade on men outside fashion shows, too. Most guys I know probably won’t be suiting up in hot pink for work, but celebs like Kanye West and Pete Wentz would definitely throw one on for a premiere or a party. And I have a feeling we’re going to start seeing men wear this color a whole lot more often, even if only on their socks. Keep reading »
Not even three full days into being The First Lady, Fashion Week organizers are already planning to invite Michelle Obama to the festivities in February in New York City. Mrs. Obama has been making headlines for her fashion trends for some time so this invite comes as no surprise. She’s been so influential for her fashion sense and style. J.Crew’s Website saw a 64 percent traffic spike the day after she wore the label on “The Tonight Show.” She put designer Jason Wu in the spotlight for her inaugural gown, and she continues to make other designers become household names like Thakoon Panichgul and Mario Pinto. Mrs. Obama’s invite couldn’t have come at a better time considering many designers have pulled out of Fashion Week and the industry really needs a boost right now. IMG senior vice president said, “We have several other great initiatives like that that I certainly think are perfect for her and her daughters.” No word on which shows are extending invites. NeNe Leakes may be in talks to get her own TV show (yawn), but she’s not the only one of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” milking the few last seconds of her fifteen minutes of fame. Sheree has completed her fashion line, She by Sheree, and plans to show it at New York Fashion Week next month. You may remember her first “fashion show” from last season, in which none of her fashions were actually shown, and instead Sheree leaned blown up pictures of her designs against the walls and hoped no one would notice they weren’t the real thing. No word yet on whether this collection is made with fabric or paper, but one thing’s for sure, Sheree can certainly afford the tens of thousands of dollars it takes to put on a show at Fashion Week. She’s taking her ex-husband, former New York Giant Bob Whitfield, back to court to get more than the initial $1 million she got in her divorce settlement. Designers like Betsey Johnson and Vera Wang aren’t showing collections in the tents this year, but Sheree is. Could this be the first sign we’re quickly moving into a Depression? As you know, Barbie’s turning 50 next year, but don’t worry, she isn’t going to start wearing orthopedic shoes any time soon. Christian Louboutin is designing a pair of pumps in Barbie Pantone 219 Pink that will make their debut at the Mattel runway show during February’s fashion week in New York. “I guess I always had a little ‘girlie side’ who liked Barbie,” Louboutin said. “Barbie needs to wear great shoes because every girl needs to wear great shoes.” Wouldn’t it be cool if he made the soles pink instead of his signature red?
