The Trick To Lining Your Eye’s Inner Rim

This week actress Michelle Monaghan turned it out for the Vogue event at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC–they were celebrating the opening of their new and improved third designer-packed floor–along with a slew of other celebs including Anna Wintour fave Charlize Theron. Anyways, Michelle really pulled off the inner lower eyelid lining thing—and it ain’t that easy to do. So many people try lining the inner rim of their eyes and hate either the results (teeny-looking eyes) or the process (getting that pencil so freaking close to your eyeball!). But if you’re someone who doesn’t mind getting in there and working it with the eyeliner, check out my eye-widening liner tip, after the jump! (I swear your eye really will look ginorm.)

The Next Celeb Fashion Collab Could Involve Simmons Sisters

There’s really nothing like a good collaboration in fashion because it’s as if two creative minds have merged in one and created something totally unique, like Anna Sui for Target or Manolo Blahnik for Rachel Roy. During the madness before Monarchy’s Spring 2010 collection, between a Janice Dickinson sighting and Robert Verdi on-air moments, Vanessa and Angela Simmons discussed their own design collaboration dreams with us.”Betsey Johnson! She would be, wow,” the sisters gushed in unison. “We also love the boys from DSquared. There are just so many great fashion designers right now, but those would be are our two top ones. They have so much fun with fashion.” Will we see Pastry for Betsey Johnson next season, along with a trio of cartwheels? Keep reading »

Quick Pic: Half And Half Hair

A model sports a half-crimped, half-straight ‘do at Valencia (who knew?) Fashion Week. Is this something we might actually attempt at home kids? [FashionIndie.com] Keep reading »

How To Get Fake Bangs With The Help Of A Hair Donut

Backstage at Cynthia Rowley, I spotted a new ‘do that some of you ladies out there (and certain people around here) are going to love. The curled bang look created by hairstylist Bok-Hee is just as retro as Simcha’s usual pompadour, but, as Bok-Hee told me, it has “a little modern twist.” To create the bang, Bok-Hee combed a section of hair forward and rolled it over a hair donut she had cut to fit the model’s forehead, pinning it into place. The rest of the hair was slicked back into a pony, and that’s it! This could also be a pretty slick way to try bangs before you commit to cutting your hair. Just pair with this purple MAC shadow they blended together to give the look a modern edge. Keep reading »

The Preen Beauty Team Creates Looks The Average Gal Can Wear

We were backstage at Preen this morning for New York Fashion Week and were surprised that the models had really minimal hair and makeup that could be worn by average women. Learn how to recreate the look without buying a ton of products, after the jump. Keep reading »

Quick Pic: Met Their Match, Took It Too Literally

Did Demi forget to pack for their trip to New York? Or is Ashton really into the matchy-match couple thing? Either way: Ew. Fashion Week’s now got two hot messes that tried to clean up nice. [Manhattan, 9/11/09] Keep reading »

The Great Big Fashion’s Night Out Recap

Take it with a grain of salt from a jaded old editor, but Fashion’s Night Out was actually really, really awesome and fun. I say that because no one really knew what to expect, and plenty of fashion editors were downright down on the whole thing. Maybe it’s because industry insiders are so used to being exclusive and it’s all about getting on the right list to closed-to-the-”commoners” events. So FNO, which involved all these stores throwing swishy parties that were no RSVP-required, seemed vaguely threatening somehow. Let everyone in? How’s that gonna work?

The answer is it worked like a charm. In fact, it may have been the best party of Fashion Week. Did I mention there was lots of free champagne? Keep reading »

Random Celeb At Fashion Week Alert!

Every season there are those celebrity appearances that just have us wondering, Why? While it goes without saying that the runway show for Rosa Cha would draw a few boys and men to the tents, given the skinny-mini Brazilian-cut bikinis that the brand is so well known for, an appearance by Sean Paul was one that even celebrity followers were surprised by. But like a true sport, he took pictures with fans while waiting to greet designer Alexander Herchcovitz and seemed appreciative of the designs that were sent down the runway. Do we have a new Kanye West on our hands? Keep reading »

How To Get Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. Beauty Look

When it’s time to put together the look for a L.A.M.B. fashion show, the beauty team not only looks at the collection for inspiration but also its designer, Gwen Stefani. We were backstage at the show and learned quite a bit about how to create hair and makeup that can hold its own against the in-your-face, street-chic L.A.M.B. clothing. A girl can’t be noticed only for her outfit — her mug has to get the same attention, right? More, lots more, after the jump. Keep reading »

Tough Girl Makeup At Prabal Gurung

Prabal Gurung showed his first collection in February (before that he was design director at Bill Blass), but his name is on everyone’s tongue this season. Not only was he quoted in today’s New York Times article about getting into the fashion biz, but Rachel Zoe tweeted last night that she was wearing one of his designs. We got to peek backstage as the models were getting prepped for the show, where it was all about bringing out the inner bitch. Keep reading »
