Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design is home to one of the world’s oldest and most well-respected fashion design programs. The school has helped launched the careers of Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and Givenchy’s Ricardo Tischi, among others. Each year, the school hosts a show from the fashion program’s master’s students, showcasing their offbeat and avant garde collections. We have now entered day two of the prestigious Paris Haute Couture Week, the spark that lights the fuse of fashion weeks to follow. Yesterday was Atelier Versace (for the first time since 2004!), Alexis Mabille, Christian Dior, and Giambattista Valli, among others. This morning, not one, but two Chanel shows took place, followed by Giorgio Armani Privé and Givenchy later in the day. Of course, it’s my long-standing dream to attend just one of these breathtaking ceremonies, but for the time being I’m forced to spectate from the sidelines. Couture Week brings out some of the biggest and brightest names in street style, and I’ll be damned if they weren’t dressed to the nines. The biggest turnout comes from models, actresses, superstars, and socialites, who no doubt have the means to show up the girls actually on the runway, but they tend to skew fairly casual for these festivities. Here are my choice looks from the past two days; expect another feature covering the next two!

I love fashion, but the Paris couture collections make me absolutely giddy. These collections celebrate fashion as high art, and present frothy, impossibly constructed delectable creations that make grown women salivate. Of course, couture gowns cost in the tens and hundreds of thousands, so we won’t be buying one anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look. The first day of couture week featured shows from Giambattista Valli, Christian Dior (currently helmed by Bill Gaytten), Chanel, Versace, and Alexis Mabille — and they did not disappoint. God bless Vivienne Westwood: Her Fall/Winter 2012 fashion show put a chill on the faces of the poor male models sent down the runway. The boys were forced to wear fake — and in some cases, real — icicle beards. The look was apparently an homage to British naturalist David Attenborough and his documentary “Frozen Planet.” Either way, those are some deliciously frosty snowmen. [Telegraph UK]

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Who comes up with this stuff? And on what kind of drugs? And are they sharing those drugs? Because it’s clear that there’s something rather cuckoo clocks about the whole affair. And even though there’s tons of boobs and bare bums, it doesn’t even seem that sexy — just campy and silly. You might call it the Snookification of sexy: More Benny Hill than bad rap video.

In any case, there were plenty of Vicky Secret supermodels on the catwalk last night, including a ridiculously in-shape post-baby Miranda Kerr (jaysus that woman!), a liquid-dieting Adriana Lima and a be-caped Candice Swanepoel. Check out all the cheeky, ridonkulous hilarity in our slideshow.

Dressing Cats Up In Costumes Is Animal Torture I Can Get Behind

For the past 15 years, the storied Algonquin Hotel in Manhattan has hosted a cat fashion show, in honor of its famed housecat, Matilda. This year’s fashion show brought out a wide array of well-coiffed kitties, dressed to the nine-lives (BARF) in the finest cat costume creations their crazy owners could find. Of course, there’s nothing more displeasing to a cat than being shoved fluff first into a cat-sized version of a party dress. Alexa Chung Has Way More Jobs Than You

Chung previously hosted MTV’s midday chat show, “It’s On With Alexa Chung,” and will soon be seen in the new PBS series “Thrift America,” where she travels around the U.S. looking for hidden thrift and vintage treasures (the fact that this is a job that someone can have makes me unbelievably jealous). Fashion Designer Thierry Mugler Made A Dirty Magazine

Fashion designer and frequent Lady Gaga collaborator, Thierry Mugler, premiered his men’s collection this week, and along with it, released a very salacious photo magazine called Brothers of Arcadia. Gaga Makes New Music for Mugler

Dying for new Lady Gaga? Sure you are. But if you want to hear new Gaga you’re going to have to score yourself a ticket to designer Thierry Mugler’s menswear show in Paris on Wednesday. Mugler designer Nicola Formichetti, who’s designed clothes for Gaga in the past, snagged the Mama Monster to be “musical director” of her show. Sonia Rykiel’s H&M Party Was OTT

Recession? What recession? From looking at this video of the launch party for Sonia Rykiel’s H&M lingerie collection, you’d think we’re living in an economy of decadence. Held at the Grand Palais in Paris, the event was nothing short of crazy (in a good way)—the place was decked out with twinkling lights, miniature Eiffel Towers, and balloon sculptures. The collection was presented in a parade of baton twirlers, marching geese, and floats where models were swinging from chandeliers or cycling on stationary bikes.
