Photoshop Of Horrors: Lindsey Wixson

We’ve written about 15-year-old model Lindsey Wixson here before, and now her new ad campaign for Miu Miu, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, is floating its way around the fashion blogs. This shot in particular caught our eye. No doubt, Wixson is tall and skinny, but that leg? It looks either very, very skinny and very, very long, or it’s been weirdly tweaked by that magical body-morphing process known as Photoshop. These days, there’s a great deal of discussion over how thin is too thin in the modeling world, and why those in the magazine and advertising industries insist upon tweaking women’s bodies into unreal, unsightly proportions. It’s hard to tell if what’s going on here is a pair of coltish legs or a photo-manipulator gone wild. Either way, it looks … alien. Isn’t Wixson interesting-looking enough on her own? Who can resist a good model Cinderella story? In 2007, the 5’9″ British boarding school student Jasmine Munting hopped on the tube and tried to avoid the stares of what she assumed was a creepy stranger. That intimidating person happened to be a Select Model Management Agent, and the rest is fashion ad campaign-making history. Munting, now 17, goes by the more model-y name of “Frida” (obvs!), and Vogue U.K. has named her a 2010 Model To Watch, an accolade that now supermodels Agy Deyn and Lily Donaldson once shared. And some industry insiders are predicting she’ll be the next Lily Cole (um, because she’s English as well?) or even skyrocket to Kate Moss-level stardom. We like her unique look and the fact that she’s still in school–apparently, she’s a really good student and has been on scholarship since the age of 11. Brains and beauty. “America’s Next Top Model” Winner Lands Real Fashion Campaign

Fashion insiders (and savvy reality TV watchers) know that for all the delish ridiculosity that is “America’s Next Top Model,” most of these girls are never gonna make it in the real world of high fashion modeling. Ever notice how the winners are a far cry from your Sashas and Karlies and Stams of the actual fashion runways? Yeah, this is a make-believe-for-TV model sandwich. However, last season’s winner — the, ahem, slightly petite Nicole Fox, who some of you may remember as the “slow talker” from the shorty season — just broke through the chains that bind them! Alexander McQueen just chose her to be the face of his spring/summer 2011 collection, making her the first “ANTM” alum to land an international campaign and, well, to do some real-life, serious modeling.
