Lindsey Wixson Is The Face Of Alexander McQueen Spring 2011

Sixteen-year-old, 5’10″ supermodel-in-the-making Lindsey Wixson is the star of the Alexander McQueen spring 2011 ad campaign. The teenager appears lost in a sea of butterflies. We like. [The Cut] Keep reading »

Latest Round Of Diesel Ads As Stupid As Advertised

In a way, Diesel’s “Be Stupid” ad campaign (you’re looking at one from the latest round here) is genius, because even if you say, “Wow, these ads are totally stupid,” the folks at Diesel can be like, “Yeah, that’s why it’s the ‘Be Stupid’ campaign.” Still, the ads are just dumb. They’re not cute or fun or frolicky, or whatever it was they were after. They’re boorish and weak and would probably bore even the most puerile frat boy. As usual, I’m left to wonder how much money, how many meetings, and how many ad men/women it took to come up with, “Ha-ha, let’s have a guy biting a girl’s butt and then it says, ‘You’ll eat better’!” Really, Diesel, can’t you do better? Alexander McQueen Eyewear A Shade Spooky

The late, great fashion designer Alexander McQueen‘s label lives on, and the newest offering is from the eye wear line. In these ads, we get a peek of what’s to come: Jackie O. and Speed Racer. Touch Puppet deems the skull-tastic ads Damien Hirst-esque, which sounds about right. I suppose it’s more than a little macabre, considering McQueen’s suicide earlier this year, but I can’t imagine he would have it any other way, and this looks like exactly how we would have done it: irreverent, disconcerting, and decidedly sexy. More after the jump. Keep reading »

Study Shows Violent Fashion Ads “Lure” Consumers, But Is That All?

So, 2008 and 2009 saw some of the grossest, bloodiest, most violent fashion ads of all time. To refresh your memory, Duncan Quinn once depicted mobsters torturing female bodies, Alexander McQueen placed models on a bed of snakes, and Marc Jacobs dangled women out of buildings. (Drastic recessionary action?)

While things have quieted down a little bit, we may expect to see a resurgence in savage advertising thanks to a study published in the Journal of Consumer Research, which is making its rounds around the internet. The investigation, conducted by two female researchers, one from the University of Saskatchewan and the other from Santa Clara University, recorded the reaction and engagement of women as they looked at violent fashion campaigns. Britney: Before & After Airbrushing, Photoshop Madness

Seems like the visuals here just speak for themselves, but we’ll give you a little context: Apparently, Britney Spears wanted to reach out to her fans by releasing un-altered images from an old Candie’s fashion shoot. Uh huh. Raanndom, but we’ll take it! Public awareness of just how much goes into Photoshopping images for advertising and editorial has skyrocketed in the past few years, but we’ll never get tired of seeing stuff like this. Another image, after the jump! [Daily Mail] Keep reading »

Marion Cotillard’s Shangai Surprise

Does anyone here know what a “Shangai Surprise” is anyway? (I’m aware that Google exists, but I’m feeling lazy.) Regardless, how gorgeous does Miss Cotillard look against the skyline of the city as Lady Blue, the third incarnation of her seriously epic Dior campaign? [Lady Dior] Keep reading »

Can You “Guess” Which Claudia Schiffer Ad Is New?

Those of us golden oldies who can remember Claudia Schiffer‘s Guess modeling days (and may or may not have had said ads plastered on our walls next to Kate Moss’s Calvin Klein tearouts back in the day) did a double take when we saw the supermodel’s new ad campaign for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, at right. Obviously, the more important thing here is that you should waste no time supporting the cause by shopping the collection — 30 percent of proceeds go to FTBC. But before you go, please take a moment to marvel at how a little lighting, a great photographer (Mario Testino), Photoshop, and designer genes can shave off a few decades. Wow. Keep reading »

What Do You Think Of This McQ Ad: Cute Or Creepy?

The Cut deems this new McQ ad one of the “best.” It appears to feature a young pregnant woman in leggings eating cereal out of a box. We’re not sure we like it. In fact, it’s a little disconcerting. Is it just us? [The Cut] Keep reading »

The French Connection Guy Wants You To Understand Him

As Leo pointed out, the new French Connection ad campaign is really something, by which we mean “makes no logical sense.” Well, surprise, surprise. The commercials are equally incomprehensible. Meet “The Man.” He is confused by elevators, refuses to shave, and goes nowhere in life without the accompaniment of a French voice-over. NB: He wears not slogans or sequins! Eff, en fakt, zis iz zee mahn, ah zink zee mahn neez tew brusha heez hairz. [ANIMAL] Keep reading »
