Now that we’ve acknowledged that summer is on its way out, we can get excited about fall makeup! With new trends come new releases, and you know what that means: it’s high time to update your makeup wardrobe, so to speak. Here are my product picks that will have you craving the cool weather sooner than you think…
Brace yourselves: it’s time to start considering fall beauty. It seems like just yesterday we were discussing our lighter, more low-maintenance summer beauty routines, but the forecast will be replete with smoky eyes and vampy lips before we know it. I look to the Autumn/Winter runway shows for a bit of insight into what we’ll be seeing on the red carpet in the coming months — and if celebrity trends are any indicator, we should all be in search of that perfect burgundy lipstick. Click through for a selection of fall looks straight off the catwalk, along with a few simple steps to wearing them yourself.
This scarf is a great way to get the Ikat trend into your wardrobe without having to dive in completely. You can add a pop of color or texture to any number of outfits, wear around your neck or head, or tied to your bag. The combination of green, orange, pink and ivory is perfect for fall, and works well with just about any skin tone. It would look beautiful thrown over everything from a peacoat or giant sweater to a silk or lace top. [Luxury Ikat Scarf, $40, Spun by Subtle] Keep reading »
Opaque tights are a tricky beast; sometimes they’re too light, other times they rip really easily. And most of them have that obnoxious little elastic waistband that lends itself to endless fidgeting. But for those of us who wear skirts and dresses all winter long, they’re a necessary evil. Being a hater of regular pants myself, I fall into this skirt-wearing, tights-needing category. Extensive research has finally lead me to arguably the best opaque tights out there. I’ve tried Fogal and Wolford at $50-$80 a pop, American Apparel for $20 a pair and everything in between. As it turns out, though, 2/$20 HUE Super Opaques are far and away better than the competition. They’re totally opaque instead of that in-between BS. They don’t rip easily and are super comfortable and generally sleek-looking. Time to stock up! Keep reading »
Hurray! Despite the grim economic climate, there is good news for back to school style. Fashion forecasters and experts are predicting a trend that is easy on the eyes and wallet: individuality. Stylists are not predicting any new radical “must haves” clothes or “will die without” accessories. Instead, we are seeing familiar popular trends getting personalized twists. By now every gal has a pair of skinny jeans, but what she chooses to pair with it is the new X factor. This season, rather than buying an ensemble a store puts together, we suggest you opt for acting as your own stylist and highlight your own unique style. Luckily for you, the best way to find individuality is through shopping…in your closet. Nothing states your style as well as your favorite items from seasons past. Read our tips for the ultimate back to school shopping in your closet guide after the jump. Keep reading »
Can we give Adidas an A+ for creativity? Usually, clothing lines create a catalog or look book to show off the latest clothes for the season. But for their SLVR Label Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 collection, Adidas has added a short video that anyone can watch on YouTube. (FYI: The video was directed by Theo Stanley and features music by Sam Wagster, all under the creative direction of Pietsch Lim.) This one-minute video feels very much like a collage of sound and images, and it’s a cool way to view the clothing, if not a little too artsy. Eh, see what you think.

Fall is here and there’s only one way to not get left out in the fashion cold — a hot new coat. Alas, it’s time again to snuggle up to the perfect snug fitting jacket that compliments your wardrobe and stands out in a crowd, so you won’t have a hard time finding it in the coat pile at a party. This one, from Urban Outfitters, classes up the comfort of a hoodie and updates the classic crop jacket with asymmetrical buttons and bold prints. Available in a gray/black plaid or a black/white brocade, it’s fresh, fun, and fully-lined. This season, if you want to rock out in style, this jacket is the jam! How long has it been since it was cool enough for you to wear pants? Far too long, in our opinion. This hat-wearing gal, with her tank and skinny jeans, makes us yearn for sunny days that aren’t at all humid, when pants can be worn without sticking uncomfortably to the legs. Autumn rocks.
