Did you guys get a chance to go to the pumpkin patch this year? I went with my brother last week, and while we were in the petting zoo he mentioned that my parents may have lied about the circumstances surrounding my bunny’s death when I was in 5th grade, so that kind of colored the whole trip, but that’s beside the point. You know who else loves pumpkin patches? Celebrities! Yep, every October they flock to sunny LA pumpkin patches in droves, cute kids in tow, determined to find the perfect pumpkin. Click through to check out 12 celebs–from Gwen Stefani to Hilary Duff–taking part in this fun fall tradition…
Celebs may have worn it first, but we’ve been feeling leather (and leather-look) pants, shorts, and skirts in the forecast for some time now. The right piece fits seamlessly into any wardrobe; it can be the centerpiece of an outfit in color or worn with anything in black. Either way, it’s a luxurious, classic look with an unexpected edge. But let’s face it — good leather doesn’t come cheap. Hell, neither does good pleather. The quest to find the right pair of pants, or the perfect skirt, isn’t easy, so we’ve made it a little easier by compiling 10 of our best bets (of both leather and vegan pleather) under $300, with 4 options under $100. Don’t be afraid to invest in leather, because if New York Fashion Week runway trends are any indication (and duh, of course they are), the look is here to stay well through the next two seasons.
This month I’m hoping to fill every possible moment with pumpkin-themed activities: pumpkin carving parties, pumpkin patch adventures, pumpkin dessert potlucks, pumpkin-launching catapult shenanigans, etc. And I didn’t know it until now, but none of these activities would be complete without the glorious presence of a PUMPKIN KEG. Apparently it’s super easy to make your own, although the tutorial recommends Sam Adams Octoberfest beer, while I think the occasion clearly calls for a pumpkin ale. But hey, if you really want to get the party started, fill it with pumpkin pie-infused vodka. Cheers to fall! [Celebrations]
A dear friend recently gave us a pretty awesome piece of advice: fall is the perfect season to consider the things that no longer serve us, and let them go, just like the leaves dropping from the trees. Whether it’s resentment, sorrow, or a need to please, we all cling to things that ultimately hold us back, and in the spirit of fall, now’s the time to reflect and figure out how to let go and move forward. Read on to see what your sign tends to hold onto, and how you might benefit from learning to let it go… Keep reading »
Last week, I wrote about a Pendleton plaid satchel that had me yearning to pack it up and hit the road for a fall road trip, and as the leaves have started changing colors, my road trip excitement has increased exponentially. Fall is the perfect time to take a long, lazy drive, because the weather is calm and the scenery is unbelievably gorgeous. Whether your road trip lasts a few hours or a few days, I highly encourage you to take one. Here are 7 things you’ll need to have the best experience possible… Keep reading »
Think baroque, with its shadowy drama, rich colors, and exaggerated opulence, is best left in 17th century Europe? Think again: the grand, flourishing stylization is experiencing a revival, and not in the medium you would think. After appearing on fall runways from Balmain to Dolce & Gabbana, what’s old has become new again in chiaroscuro contrasting shades, like black with gilded details and neutral greys with vividly-hued embellishment, and it’s looking fresher than ever. Get your hands on these 11 classic pieces before everybody else does.
Flip open any fashion magazine this season and I guarantee it will declare fall’s hottest color as oxblood. Not human blood, not cow blood, not goat blood, not any of the other grosser sounding color names on Winona’s list, but oxblood! Otherwise known by the considerably less alarming name “maroon,” it’s a deep, sort of dull reddish brown, which I guess is the color that oxen bleed. Semantics aside, oxblood fits perfectly into the dark, vampy color scheme we’ve forecasted for fall, and its gothy appeal is sure to complement any autumn-to-winter wardrobe (especially if you, like me, tend to find yourself in a rut of all black everything from October through February). Check out my ten picks for oxblood pieces that will see you through this season and beyond … and please, do feel free to call it maroon.
The cooler seasons always call for more dramatic beauty looks, from sultry smoky eyes to vampy red lips, but this year’s focus is especially inclined toward a statement lip that’s a touch darker than the usual fall fare. Most of us (myself included) won’t have the guts for the vampy bordeaux lips we’ve been seeing on celebs, but a striking red never goes out of style (plus, it totally completes an otherwise low-maintenance face, perfect for those foggy mornings where you just don’t want to get out of bed). The catch to wearing the look is that, while bold opaque lipstick is guaranteed to grab attention, it also grabs on to any wayward imperfections, like fine lines or chapped lips. There are a few steps you can take to get the most out of your lipstick, whether it’s matte or satin, burgundy or coral — just follow these tips and go for it! Keep reading »
With the promise of a new season comes the necessity to change things up, from our hair to our wardrobes to our go-to nail colors. It’s time to break up with our summer brights — so long, neon, it was fun while it lasted — and move on to more subdued shades. Luckily, our favorite nail polish brands are well-acquainted with the predicament we’re in right now, and they’ve come to the rescue with brand-new collections of sultry hues that can be worn well through the winter, too. (Don’t worry, we didn’t forget our old favorites, either.) For best results, pair with a cashmere sweater (when the time comes — don’t rush it!) and some sweet motorcycle boots. Unless you’ve got a fresh pedicure, that is — don’t worry, we won’t judge you for wearing sandals while you still can. Keep reading »
