The leaves are turning, a chill has entered the air and people are giving you weird looks when they see you’re still wearing flip-flops everywhere (okay, maybe that’s just me). It’s fall, which means it’s time to buy a new coat. Now, I gotta say, as much as I hate the changing seasons, I’m pretty jazzed about the selection of coat trends: Cozy blanket-style wrap coats and poncho capes! Slick moto jackets with shearling collars! Bright hues and funky parkas and collarless coats, oh my! Click through for six coat trends with options for each…
The vibe I’m going for with my fashion choices for fall is best described as ’70s high school arts and crafts teacher. You know the cool female teacher at the beginning of “Dazed and Confused” who tells her students that the 4th of July is basically a celebration of “a bunch of slave-owning aristocratic white males [who] didn’t want to pay their taxes”? That’s what I’m going for, only my muse is more into macrame than Das Kapital. ANYWAY, the key piece to any respectable ’70s art teacher look is a pair of clogs. I just ordered this seriously sweet, modernized take on the classic clunky shoe from Madewell (also available in black). I love the heel height and sling back style, plus the closed toe means I’ll be able to wear them well into the cooler months. If you’re feeling as groovy as I am about these kicks, click through to see three outfit ideas (inspired by imaginary events/activities) to wear them with. [$124.99, Madewell]
Ahh, the changing seasons, the cooling temperatures, the falling leaves, the new excuses to shop for “must have” items for your closet. I have mixed feelings about fall fashion. On one hand, I love to have a good reason to blow some money on pretty things. On the other hand, I personally find fall fashion trends to be hit or miss. Colorful fur coats? With what money? Ankle length leather skirts? Whut. Why. Embellished socks? WHO’S GOING TO SEE?! But there are some fall trends that I am totally buying into and dammit, I think you should too.
Trust me, I am in no rush for fall. I love warm summer days wearing little more than a sundress and a pair of sandals, but it;s impossible to ignore the sultry suede shoes popping up in magazines touting fall trend. So many of our favorite must haves from spring, like lace-up heels, laser cut details, and mules are here to stay. Check out 12 pairs of suede shoes that I can’t afford but are taking over my Pinterest shoe board.
Fall trends are so great because they’re usually stylish and comfortable. Cozy mixed knit sweaters. Warm cape coats. And my personal favorite: the slightly oversized blazer. Whether you choose a super slouchy style or opt for a tailored blazer with just a bit of extra room, you’re going to look simultaneously pulled together and edgy, which is quite an amazing fashion feat. Throw one of these bad boys on over a dress and sweater tights, jeans and a T-shirt, or sexy leather pants and a tight tanktop. Click through for 10 of my favorite slouchy blazers of the season, many of which ring up at less than 100 bucks!
Dark, cold days call for bright, happy accessories. This gorgeous infinity scarf, adorned with a colorful feather print, will keep your neck warm and perk up your outfit. If feathers aren’t your thing, the scarf-making genius behind this creation has tons of other patterns and styles to match any aesthetic. (Buffalo plaid? Tribal print? Floral? Snowflake? Check, check, check, check.) I’ll take one of each, please! [$24, Vintage Dutch Girl]
