Umm, Biker Shorts For $365, Why?

Is edgy, New York City designer Alexander Wang secretly pulling his inspiration from suburban malls? First he produced this leather sleeved jean jacket, which reeks of an Aeropostale catalog knockoff, and now we’ve spotted a pair of his biker shorts for sale on Shopbop.com. The spandex shorts, which were prominently featured during his Fall 2009 show, look remarkably similar to ones we’ve seen everywhere from Sears to Walmart. Except, what would cost you $30 at these department stores will run you a couple of hundred–$365 to be exact. We get it, Wang is chic and modern and all the celebs and socialites love him. But no amount of buzz in the world justifies this price point! [The Cut] Keep reading »

Dsquared2 Fashion Show Showcases “Starlet Trash” Look In Milan

WWD revealed on Friday that Dsquared2 has created the wardrobe for Britney Spears’ Circus tour, which kicks off tomorrow in New Orleans. The label, which is designed by Canadian brothers Dan and Dean Caten, has been associated with tabloid queens before (Jessica Simpson, Fergie, Rihanna), and their Fall 2009 collection seems to reflect the starlets that wear their designs. The clothes hold a strong resemblance to what Mary-Kate Olsen might wear on a trip to pick up a tall sugar-free vanilla non-fat extra-ice blended latte at Starbucks: plaid shirts, lots of layers, ripped shorts, loads of bracelets, a huge bag, and big sunglasses. Isn’t it nice that the designers made their “Starlet Trash” look authentic by accessorizing with ‘bucks cups? Keep reading to see another photo from the show. Keep reading »

Poll: Would You Wear This?

One of the beauty trends at New York Fashion Week was the reverse French manicure, where the moon, rather than the tip, is a different color from the rest of the nail. You might not remember this unless you’re a Batman nerd like me, but Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman) had nails like this in “Batman and Robin.” Anyway, would you paint your nails like this? Keep reading »

The Wobble-Inducing Heels Of London Fashion Week

We just go from one city’s fashion week to another’s, and right now designers are showing their Fall 2009 clothes in London. Unlike New York Fashion Week, where the heels seemed lower than usual (except for at Herve Leger), the shoes of London are tall and predominantly platforms. So far, no model has totally bit it and landed on the runway, but there have been a few close calls: a trip at Vivienne Westwood, a removal of shoes at Ely Kishimoto, and a slo-mo walking style at Basso & Brooke.

Runway DJ: New York Fashion Week Music

Fashion Week isn’t just an event for seeing next season’s clothes and spotting celebs sitting front row. It’s also one of the best places to hear new music (and remember songs that you’d long forgotten). While live music was a huge trend for Fall 2009 — Zac Posen had the 5 Browns playing five Steinway pianos on his runway, and Lissy Trullie and her band rocked Phillip Lim’s show — there were still awesome tunes blaring as models stomped down the runways last week. After the jump, listen to 15 of our favorite songs playing during New York Fashion Week. Keep reading »

The Jewelry Of New York Fashion Week

Just as you probably don’t leave the house without adding at least one bracelet, ring, or necklace to your outfit, fashion designers don’t let their models walk onto the runway un-accessorized. At the Trovata show on Tuesday, tailored-yet-casual-and-effortless clothes were accented with jewelry from the year-old line DanniJo, designed by sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder. Among our favorite baubles in the show were the Celia entangled chain necklace ($465) and the Jacinda ring ($82), which models wore on three or four fingers. While this was DanniJo’s first official fashion week, it’s not the line’s first fashion show. Remember Jenny Humphrey’s guerilla fashion show on “Gossip Girl”? Well, Little J’s designs were paired with DanniJo necklaces!
