Shopping Guide: 10 Super Sweaters

I still can’t get my mind off the brutal winter to come. We’ve had a few bone-chilling days already, and it’s only mid-November. Needless to say, it’s hard to stay warm and sexy in the wintertime. Bulking up is a must so as not to freeze, but who wants to leave the house looking like a swaddled snowman just because it’s cold outside? Not me. Here’s a roundup of some sweaters that will keep you warm but looking cool under all your layers.

Shopping Guide: Colorblocking Basics

Colorblocking is a huge trend right now, and for good reason: it’s the perfect antidote to dark winter days. Ready to try it yourself? All you need are two (or more) bright colored solids, worn together for visual impact. Cobalt jeans and a pink sweater, for example. Or a red dress with orange tights. Whether you want to dive into a rainbow outfit or just add some color to your winter wardrobe, we’ve rounded up some bright basics to help you get started. Click through to check ‘em out…

There are three reasons we reach for knee-high boots when the temperature dips. First, they help keep legs warm. Second, knee-high boots are like the universal shoe, going with pants, skirts, dresses, and shorts. And third, they’re hella chic and sophisticated! Here are 12 of our favorite pairs…

Shopping Guide: Happy Corduroy Appreciation Day!

Today is 11/11/11, which is Veteran’s Day (currently being commemorated in a parade walking past The Frisky offices!), but it’s also Corduroy Appreciation Day. Every year, Corduroy Appreciation Day coincides with 11/11, as the date’s verticality pleasantly resembles the fabric’s pattern. But as the epic 11/11/11 only falls once every 100 years, so in honor of this even-more-special celebration, we’ve selected several fine corduroy pieces, designed to set your fine corduroy heart aflutter, on this magical, mystical day.

Shopping Guide: 11 Cool Chapeaus

A recent study found that only 7 percent of women love their hair, yet we spend a ton of time grooming it. But wouldn’t life just be easier if we covered up with a hat on the bad hair days? I’m not talking about a knit beanie or baseball cap. I mean a fabulous chapeau — one that will show off your style while also being chic enough to wear indoors! Here are 11 of our favorite, finger-snap-approved hats for bad hair days … or every day, really.

Shopping Guide: The Men’s Sneakers, Boots & Shoes We Want To Wear

For as long as we can remember, we’ve lived by the philosophy that you can tell a lot about a man by his choice in footwear. But lately, we’ve been ogling men’s shoes sartorially, rather than with a love connection in mind. Even though our feet are too small for most men’s footwear, we couldn’t help but put together some of the sneakers, boots, and shoes we wish we could wear. Here are 12 shoe options for the men of The Frisky.

Shopping Guide: Warm Winter Scarves

Winter manages to waffle somewhere between being my favorite season and my least favorite all at once. I don’t know how this can be. I think I love the idea of it — a fresh layer of snow on the ground, logs on the fire, the omnipresent holiday spirit… I can’t stand fingers numb with cold, a red and runny nose, or the ache in my ear canals from the bitter wind. I don’t even have a fireplace. In actuality, I only really love winter from the safety of my bed. Even better, it’s a safe justification for thinly masked laziness. This winter, though, I have other plans. I’m going to remain fully functional (maybe not as easy as it sounds) and stave off the ten to fifteen pounds that beg to descend upon me every December. These cold weather accessories, namely all things scarf, snood, and shawl, are going to make it possible.

Iris Apfel’s Jewelry Can Now Be Yours

Ninety-year-old designing legend and quirky lady about town, Iris Apfel, cuts such a unique figure, she was offered the opportunity to design not one but two accessories collections last year, for HSN and Alexis Bittar, respectively. Now YOOX.com is getting in on the Apfel love; they’ve commissioned her to create another line of beautiful baubles, priced between $45 for low-end pieces and $2,800 for luxury rhinestone encrusted bracelets, necklaces and rings. But! That’s not all. Iris fanatics can also pick up a piece from her own personal collection — as in, items she’s collected and actually worn over the years — from the site, too. Click through to check out some of our favorite pieces from her personal collection. [Yoox]

Shopping Guide: 10 Awesome Scarves

This shopping guide happens to be very personal for me, because earlier today, I, sniff, destroyed my favorite scarf by accidentally throwing it in with my regular wash. It now lies a shrunken, sponge-y mess at the bottom of my trash can. So yes, now I need a new scarf. Click through to see some sweet options for both you and me.
