Love ‘Em Or Leave ‘Em: Fake Eyelashes

This summer, I’ve been committed to attending as many frivolous pop concerts as possible and dressing accordingly, which means sequins, disastrously high heels, and my recently discovered favorite accessory: fake eyelashes. I’d actually never tried them before the Britney Spears concert (I know, I know) a few weeks ago. My friend Molly and I bought a couple pairs, and from the moment they were attached to my eyelids, even though they were crooked and drenched in excess glue (it was our first time), I felt sultry and glamorous. In talking to my friends, I’ve noticed that about half of them share my love for fake lashes, and the other half thinks they’re disgusting. So I’m wondering: which camp do you fall into? These Fake Eyelashes Are Made From Flies’ Legs

Yes, this may be the creepiest thing you see all day. Here, artist and sculptor Jessica Harrison has traded in those phony, synthetic fake eyelashes for eyelashes made from the legs of flies. You read that right. Flies’ legs. Mostly, I try and be opened-minded about these things, but, among a whole host of other things, what about hygiene? Paperself Fake Eyelashes Are Eyesome

Fake eyelashes are generally a problematic beauty product. They’re either too costumey and should be reserved for Halloween and theme parties or they’re a nice idea in principle but never work in reality. When we first saw these fake eyelashes by Paperself, we thought “crazy!” To be more accurate, they’re not lashes, bur rather super-detailed paper cuttings. The styles, which feature designs like zebras, vines, and flowers, are all linked to Chinese symbolism. Looking closer, we realized they’re actually quite beautiful and artistic (assuming there’s no risk of getting paper cuts near your eyes, which would really suck). Only question is—where to wear them? We’re thinking they may be a wee bit much for your average outing.
