When Eyeliner Crosses The, Er, Line

What are your thoughts on Julianne Moore‘s eyeliner here? Va-va-voom chic or just too wacky witch? I can’t decide. On one hand, she totally played her makeup cards exactly right—she went big on the eyes and muted the rest of her face. On the other, I just can’t seem to get past the fact that I can barely make out her eyes through all the black! (And talk about making her eyes look smaller.) I think what she did here (or her makeup artist did, rather) was go with dual eyeliner. Basically, she started with a liquid, applied a line all the way around her eye, making it thicker at the outer corners and thinner at the inner corners and then came back with a shadow over top. And from the looks of it, the product has a little bit of shimmer in it too (are you seeing the wet-look there?), like the shadow in Stila’s Purrfect Eyes kit. My advice? If you are going with the double-dip of eyeliners, try it out first on just your top lid, then see if it’s really necessary to pile it on. Keep reading »

Line The Inner Rim Of Your Eyes Without Making A Teary Mess

Blake Lively and her gorge eyes — thanks to her perfectly lined inner rims — hit the town last night, above. We’ve talked about lining the inner rim of your eyes before, and I’m all about it, but, there’s one problemo: My eyes tear up something crazy and I can’t keep my eyeliner in place. To solve that rather irritating (literally and figuratively) issue, I got to testing out possible solutions and I think I’ve discovered the secret! Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: DiorLiner Liquid Liner

So, you know how you put on eyeliner in the morning, trying to make it look subtle and work-appropriate, and you’re feeling good about the whole thing until you catch your reflection in the mirror around lunch time and throw up a little? No? Well, it happens when your liner is prone either to smudging below the lash line or obnoxiously transferring to the middle of your lids when you blink. Either way, it’s not cute and countless women fall victim to this problem daily.

In what we can only call a deeply selfless and humanitarian effort, The Frisky staff has been in tireless pursuit of eyeliner that solves this enormous problem. Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Benefit Babe Cake Eyeliner

We are forever looking for the perfect easy-to-apply eyeliner. Problem is, pencils often smudge and liquid can be a tad tricky for quick and easy application. That’s why we were so excited about Benefit‘s “Babe Cake” liner compact. It comes in half black, half brown and the liner is basically the consistency of eyeshadow with the look of liner when applied with an angle brush.

At first glance, things seemed to be going swimmingly between us and our new eyeliner friend. Unfortunately, the easy application comes at a price: mad smudging. Within an hour or so, the liner began to wear off a bit and, worse still, some transferred from above our lash line to the crease of our lids, resulting in all the downsides of the morning-after look with none of the benefits. Love Benefit, but sadly, Babe Cake simply didn’t work out for us. [$22, Benefit] Keep reading »

How To Turn Eyeshadow Into Liquid Liner

We’ve gotten bored with the same old black, brown and gray liner that we use all the time. But rather than blowing money on a whole new set of colored liner, a few cosmetic companies make it really easy to turn your eyeshadow into smudge-proof liquid liner with liquid sealer. We tried one by Make Up For Ever and were immediately impressed by its awesomeness. We’ll show you how to use it after the jump. Keep reading »

The One Eyeliner Trick You Can’t Live Without

It was eyeliner hysteria last night on the MTV VMAs red carpet—I want to say 98 percent of the starlets that showed up (Cassie, Nicky Hilton, Pink, J.Lo, etc.), had some version of a heavily lined and super defined eye. Tres chic, sure—but only one pretty lady got the look really right: Lauren Conrad. Check her out above—could her eyes be anymore gorgeous, huge and perfect? There’s one big reason why her version of lined eyes really stood out from the pack, and it’s something you don’t need to hire a makeup artist to pull off yourself. Get the trick we all could use—and check out the one VMA attendee that should have heeded our advice…after the jump! Keep reading »
