We know that virtually every image we see in print has had a little Photoshop magic worked on it, but it’s easy to forget just how much. Former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Caroline Forsling is here to remind us. She is currently suing Estee Lauder over an ad she appeared in for Origins Plantscription, an “anti-aging serum.” The stuff is meant for mature skin—but Forsling is only 35. The ad shows Forsling’s face without makeup, one side supposedly treated with Plantscription and the other side without it. Check out the ad above on the left. On the right, the way we’re used to seeing Forsling.

For the next week or so, Estée Lauder makeup artists are offering free “put your best face in cyberspace” makeovers at a couple stores across America, which basically means they’re on the makeover train, again—but this time, they’re taking photos of you after your beauty upgrade. Why? Lauder wants to pretty up your Facebook (or Match.com or Twitter or…) photo. Apparently, one of their ads reads: “Your Beauty. Your Style. Your Profile.” And: “Get a great photo for your social network page, website or blog.” Wanna go? Well, better get booking an appointment; they start in some parts of the U.S. tomorrow. Here’s the list of ten counters nationwide that are offering the promo. [Estée Lauder] Keep reading »
Prescriptives, the makeup company known for skin care-friendly products and custom blends, is going out of business. Apparently, the brand, a division of Estee Lauder, hasn’t been performing well, and its shutdown is part of company restructuring. Eek! What comes next? Please don’t take away our Bobbi Brown or Clinique goods (seems unlikely).
Anyhow, it’s a shame because we’ve long been obsessed with their Magic line foundations, which have the greatest texture. Luckily, Prescriptives fans now have fair warning, as wholesale distribution will end in January, and the rest of the stock will be sold on the Prescriptives website until supplies last. Better stock up now before you have to scour eBay! [Wall Street Journal] Keep reading »
Long-term lipstick lovers rejoice! Estee Lauder has added two amazing lip products to its Double Wear Make Up collection: Double Wear Stay-In-Place Lipstick and Double Wear Stay-In-Place Lip Pencil. Yeah, the names could be shorter, but here’s what matters: These are two products that deliver what they promise — long lasting, super-smooth, conditioning color. How long, you ask? Twelve hours to be exact. The luxury beauty brand has formulated a patented technology that guarantees the color stays on through talking, eating, and the occasional smooching. Never one to take their word for it, we tried out a few sample products for ourselves, and, true to their pledge, the lipstick and pencil combo lasted as long as our day did. The lipstick comes in twelve shades; our faves are Stay Ginger, Stay Ruby and Stay Pinkberry, which are $22 each, and the pencil, $19, is available in 14 shades. Check out Apple Cordial and Plummy, which are perfect for fall. Find ‘em online or at Estee Lauder beauty counters nationwide. [Estee Lauder]
