Can You Believe This Is Juicy Couture?

With a recent infusion of fashion credibility in the form of Erin Fetherston, the designer well-known for her ethereal princess designs and floaty dresses, Juicy Couture is working to make a new name for itself and get way from tired sweatsuits. Erin’s very first creation had a major debut on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala. Apparently, after the announcement of her new position as guest designer and creative consultant, Erin fashioned a “Bespoke Juicy Couture” caftan out of the exact same fabric as those well-known velour jumpsuits. Her dress turned out really well given the material and the connotations that go along with it, proving that a good designer can make anything look fashionable. We have to admit, this could be a brand new start for Juicy Couture. [Racked via Styleite] Keep reading »

Uber-Easy Flower Arranging From Erin Fetherston

Serious spring fever hitting lately. I can’t wait to wear filmy, silky dresses and striped flat espadrilles, braid my won’t-grow-fast-enough hair to the side, and fill my teeny apt with loads of bright and cheery flowers. I’ve got most of my spring prep done (got these striped espadrilles the other day), and I plan on stealing this flower “tub” arrangement idea from designer Erin Fetherston‘s Paris apartment. It should be relatively easy to do. Get a giant, round and squat vase. Look for flowers that aren’t too pricey with big blossoms (I love peonies from my corner deli). Cut the stems so the blossoms ever so slightly peek above the rim of the vase. Stand flowers up in the water-filled vase, the more the better, and keep it natural by avoiding over-pruning. The best part about this look? The arrangement gets better as the flowers open up. Look at Erin’s almost-past-their-prime stems. [This Is Glamorous] Keep reading »

Lipstick Is Key At Erin Fetherston

Super cute Erin Fetherston is one of the sweetest designers I can think of, so it’s no wonder hairstylist Odile Gilbert told me that the designer herself was the inspiration for the hair as she placed blunt bangs — Erin’s signature style — over the models’ foreheads. MAC makeup artist Lucia Pica had another muse in mind: 1970s icon Nico of the Velvet Underground. She said she wanted the girls to “look very healthy and glowing, as if they have been running in the fields,” you know, with a little Vaseline on the lens. To get the look, she massaged the models’ skin, which “really gets the blood flowing,” a trick I may or may not employ ASAP to make my complexion look a little less Fashion Week-y. Then she regaled me with another revelation: She created the entire look using only lipstick. She used MAC lipstick in Fearless on the cheeks, explaining that the oils in a lipstick help to blend into the skin and lend an exceptionally natural-looking glow. Using a shadow brush, she swept a bronze-y brown-hued MAC lippy called Cocochino over the girls’ lids, finishing the look with a dab of clear gloss on the inner corners of the eyes to make them dewy-looking. It was gorgeous and inspiring — I think I’ll lock myself in my boudoir with a tube of lipstick and see what happens. Ahem. Keep reading »

Quick Pic: Put On Your Bunny Ears

Headgear resembling rabbit ears figured into Erin Fetherston’s spring 2010 fashion show, continuing the animal ear trend we’ve been seeing the last few months. Would you be seen in ears on a day other than Halloween? [Erin Fetherston, New York Fashion Week, 9/13/09] Keep reading »

Quote Of The Day: Erin Fetherston Not A Fan of Pantslessness

“I really believe in people not forgetting their pants.”

—Designer Erin Fetherston talking about her dislike for the ever-more-popular pantsless trend. We see she has no issues with models going braless though. [The Cut]
