I’m all about bitches who holla back at street harassment. But even cooler? When ESPN reporter Erin Andrews was caught on a camera phone telling off a “fan” in the stands who yelled at her as she stood on the sidelines, “I’m gonna watch your video tomorrow.” He was referencing, of course, the creepy nude videos filmed through hotel room peepholes by a stalker last year. Andrews’ eyebrows rose straight up and she walked over to the seats to ask him what he just said. The guy didn’t respond. “If you are going to be cool enough to say that, man up to it,” she shot back, turned around and walked away. I hope that jerk melted into a puddle of embarrassment while all his buddies laugh at him. You go, girl! Erin Andrews, 1. Cat-calling loser, 0. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »
Erin Andrews is a class act — that’s the takeaway from her first special contributor segment for “Good Morning America.” Erin’s six-minute spot explored a subject she is all too familiar with: women being stalked. Michelle was stalked by an ex-boyfriend for two years whose craziness escalated from phone calls saying he missed her to threats to kill her. Sara was stalked after a disagreement with a family member who called her hundreds of times a week for a whole year before law enforcement got involved. And Dawn, like Erin, was stalked by a stranger who preyed on African-American women. Keep reading »
- Erin Andrews, the ESPN reporter who was filmed nude in hotel rooms without her consent, joined Congressmen this morning to clarify a federal stalking law and increase the maximum available sentence for stalkers to five years. [Huffington Post]
- Essence, a lifestyle magazine geared towards black women, has stirred up controversy after it recently appointed a white fashion director. Critics of the appointment say that the fashion and magazine industries have historically ignored black women and a black woman’s lifestyle magazine should be a place to showcase a black fashion director’s talents. [The Cut]
- Children adopted by gay and lesbian parents fare just as well developmentally as those adopted by heterosexual parents, according to a study of 106 couples by the University of Virginia and George Washington University. Gay couples are banned from adopting kids in Florida, Mississippi, and Utah. [Washington Post]
Quick, wash your hands! Elisabeth Hasselbeck‘s asshat-ery is contagious: Joanna Molloy, a gossip columnist for The New York Daily News, sounded a lot like Hasselbeck in a column yesterday when she accused Erin Andrews of “want[ing] it both ways” by working as an ESPN reporter and appearing on “Dancing with the Stars” in skimpy dance outfits. Does she want to be “eye candy” on the NFL sidelines or does she want to be a serious journalist like Christiane Amanpour, who Molloy tells us would never be caught dead dancing around a bed in a “lacy black number” like Andrews did on Monday night?
What Molloy is really saying about “want[ing] it both ways” is that Andrews wants to be a virgin/Peeping Tom victim and a body-baring whore who is just asking for attention. Keep reading »
Last night Nicole Scherzinger was the 10th star to claim the mirrored ball on “Dancing with the Stars.” The lead Pussycat Doll went up against Olympic figure skater Evan Lysacek and ESPN anchor Erin Andrews and came out victorious. Many predicted that Scherzinger would win from the start based on her spectacular performances and stage presence, not to mention her extensive dance history as a member of PCD. But Lysacek and Andrews gave her a good run for her money, bringing an enjoyable end to a season of controversy.
Was it me, or was season 10 the most exciting ever? Kate Gosselin‘s diva behavior, Jake Pavelka‘s cornball glances at Vienna Girardi, and Nicole’s spats with Pamela Anderson made it must-watch TV, not to mention Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s major snafu regarding Erin Andrews’ wardrobe. The show seriously picked the right contestants this time around. To help them out for season 11, here are the 15 stars we’d love to see do the rumba next. Keep reading »
In high school, I always stayed up into the wee hours of the night to watch videos like Alanis Morrisette’s “You Outta Know” and Weezer’s “Sweater Song” on “120 Minutes.” I remember that at least once a night, a commercial for “Darrin’s Dance Grooves” would come on — Darrin choreographed videos for the likes of Britney Spears and N’Sync, and his video promised to help you master his “unique, street-style dance steps.” Interestingly, Deadspin took a closer look at this old commercial and discovered that … Erin Andrews is in it. We knew she was a ringer on “Dancing with the Stars!” Check it out. Not only does she dance, but she also enthuses, “When you’re watching this choreography, you just wanna get up and do it with them.” Yeah! [People] Keep reading »
This morning on “The View,” Elisabeth Hasselbeck got all choked up when she told her fellow co-hosts that she felt horrible about “hurting Erin Andrews‘ feelings.” As I told you this morning, on yesterday’s show, Hasselbeck made a rather inappropriate comment about how Andrews stalker could have avoided jail time if he’d just waited to see her scantily clad on “Dancing with the Stars.” Hasselbeck got reamed for the comment and had to go home and explain to her daughter the mistake she made. Now, in all fairness, Hasselbeck does seem genuinely sorry and people do say stupid things, but you gotta wonder if there’s a bit of Elisabeth that believes dressing a certain way encourages predatory behavior. Anyway, Andrews hasn’t said whether she accepts Hasselbeck’s apology, but she did tell People, “It was a slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators. As a mother and a woman, I’m disappointed she went there.” [People] Keep reading »
“For the past like three weeks she’s been wearing like next to nothing. I think in light of what happened … and as inexcusable as it was for that horrific guy to go in and try to peep on her in her hotel room … in some way, if I’m him, I’m like, ‘Man, I could have just waited 12 weeks … I could have seen this, a little bit less, without the prison time.’”
– Elisabeth Hasselbeck snarked on Erin Andrews on yesterday’s episode of “The View.” To remind you, Andrews is the ESPN commentator turned “Dancing with the Stars” contestant who was videotaped naked in a hotel room without her consent by a stalker. So. Yeah. STFU, Lizzie. [Gawker TV] Keep reading »
People, will you leave Erin Andrews alone already? After being stalked for two years by Michael David Barrett and having him post nude videos of her that he took through a hotel room peephole, Erin has yet another uber-creepy dude who won’t leave her alone. This one has yet to be caught. He’s been sending her disturbing emails for months and lately they’ve gotten violent, threatening murder and all sorts of horrible things. But rather than pull out of “Dancing with the Stars” and keep a low profile for a bit, Erin is charging ahead and has asked CBS to beef up security on the set. “She’s not the type to be easily threatened,” said her lawyer. “She has every intention to meet her obligations.” [People]
Interestingly, this is not the first celeb to be stalked while appearing on “Dancing with the Stars.” Keep reading »
