Style Stealer: Emmy Rossum’s Spring-y Floral Layers

So, I’ve finally decided to succumb to peer pressure and watch the TV show “Shameless,” starring William H. Macy and the lovely lady above, Emmy Rossum. Rossum has always struck me as one of those celebs who is inexplicably famous — minimal IMDB activity and dating a has-been rock star (Adam Duritz from the Counting Crows) does not usually make one a household name. Anyway, perhaps “Shameless” will change my current opinion of Rossum. Until then, I will happily admit to loving this outfit of hers, which I can’t wait to copycat the second spring decides to arrive (as I write this, snow is coming down outside, so it may be a while). Emmy Rossum is disconcertingly insufferable in that never-turns-down-a-party-invitation, thinks-she’s-way-more-famous-than-she-actually-is Lea Michele way that makes me want to be like, “Go home, Emmy Rossum.” (Oh, and she dated Adam Duritz, which ew.) Admittedly, she does have a pretty good voice, which she showcased to much acclaim in “The Phantom of the Opera,” but with a cover like this and a name like “Sentimental Journey,” what self-respecting person would ever purchase her new album?

Listen, I happen to love a lady who can rock menswear. Charlize Theron does it impeccably. So does Tilda Swinton, in a more avant-garde way. But Emmy Rossum, girl, this is a menswear fail. The jacket and shorts are okay but the tightly buttoned white shirt and shiny tie take this into costume territory. If only this had been styled better, it could have worked. When Emmy Rossum sat down on her talk show couch, Chelsea Handler pressed her for all the deets on doing sex scenes for her new show, “Shameless.” Emmy said she wears a “vag pad,” as she calls it, over her ladybits and her male co-star wears a “sock” on his penis. (Yeah, it’s NSFW.) I guess that makes things slightly less awkward, but I still don’t know why actors and actresses don’t just hump each other for realz. It would be so much more realistic. And fun.
