Beauty Trend: Wine-Stained Lips

Beauty Trend: Wine-Stained Lips
How-To: Make Lipstick Last
How to keep your lip color looking fresh all day long. Read More »

In case you haven’t heard, the ’90s are back in a big way, with mixed results. I’m happy to leave hair scrunchies and clunky sandals back in middle school, but deep, rich, wine-stained lips are a ’90s beauty trend I’m happy to see come back in a big way. Kerry Washington and Margot Robbie rocked plum pouts at the Academy Awards, and yesterday, Emma Watson was spotted with gorgeous wine-stained lips of her own. Want to slick on a little bordeaux? Here are nine wine-colored lipsticks that would look smashing on just about anyone… Keep reading »

Emma Watson Is “Conflicted” About Beyoncé’s Feminist Credentials

“As I was watching [Beyoncé's visual album] I felt very conflicted, I felt her message felt very conflicted in the sense that on the one hand she is putting herself in a category of a feminist, but then the camera, it felt very male, such a male voyeuristic experience of her.”

Emma Watson and Rookie Mag editor Tavi Gevinson had a chat for Wonderland magazine and naturally the subject turned to Beyoncé (because every subject eventually turns to Beyoncé) and feminism. Tavi gave a much longer, well-thought-out response with her opinions about Beyoncé, sexuality and agency, but I tend to agree with how Emma Watson feels here. That is, I generally enjoy Bey’s music but I’m conflicted about her lyrics and some imagery in her videos. It seems to me that Bey sings and presents some problematic stuff in her videos, but everyone just fawns all over her anyway, for being a mega-super-famous superstar who identifies as feminist. (I am also fairly certain this viewpoint might get me fired from The Frisky, as Amelia is Beyonce’s number one fan, as in she wants to wear Bey like a skin suit. If I’m not here Monday, you know what happened.) [NYMag.com via Wonderland]

Golden Globes Style Stealer: Rashida Jones & Emma Watson’s Punky Pearl Earrings

I’ve always considered pearls to be in the same category as Wayne Newton, Werther’s Originals and “I Love Lucy,” i.e. “Things Grandmothers Love.” But after last night’s Golden Globe Awards, I have not been able to stop thinking about the pearl earrings Rashida Jones and Emma Watson wore. Rashida’s earring is actually called an ear pin and feature three pearls in graduated sizes; Emma’s Dior earrings feature a large and small pearl connected by a bar. Inspired by their vaguely punk take on pearls, I tracked down 10 pairs of pearl earrings and cuffs that you can totally share with granny.

Wellllllll … that’s one way to wear clothes! I am generally on board with all things Emma Watson, including and especially her sartorial choices, but I just can’t with this one. Fresh off the Balenciaga Resort 2014 runway, it’s strikingly similar to this look worn by Kristen Stewart almost a year ago, when Nicolas Ghesquière was still designing for Balenciaga. Alexander Wang has since taken his place, so it strikes me as strange that these outfits are so alike. Hmmmm! Maybe there’s some totally logical Fashion explanation that’s gone right over my head. That’s probably the case. Anyway, we know how I’m feeling about this look, and it’s not good. What about you?

Alexis Neiers Complains
She's not happy about how she is portrayed in "The Bling Ring." Read More »

The Bling Ring” has already been in theaters for a couple of weeks now, and I am thoroughly embarrassed to admit that I’ve yet to see it. It’s not for lack of wanting to see it — I’ve been waiting on this film for, like, actual human years — but because the majority (75 percent, in fact) of my preferred moviegoing partners are not in the same time zone as me at the moment, let alone area code. And also, maybe just a LITTLE, because I live in great fear of finding myself disappointed by the film based off one of my favorite True Hollywood Stories of all time, not to mention the most transfixing shitshow of a reality TV series to ever hit E! (which, obviously, is really saying something). But I have a bit more confidence in the handling of the stranger-than-fiction tale knowing that Nicki Moore, the character based off of “Pretty Wild” star Alexis Neiers, is in the very capable hands of Emma Watson, who went so Method as to create a Tumblr for the role. As in, a Tumblr from the perspective of Nicki Moore, as penned by Emma Watson… and man, oh man, does Emma hit all the bases. From shoddy cityscape camera phone photos to a touching tribute to Lindsay Lohan and her “spirituality,” NickiMooreForever2012 is pretty much on point. [Crushable]

Emma For T Magazine
She nailed this cover with her sultry cat-eye — and freckles! Read More »

I am obsessed with freckles, falling just short of dotting them on myself with tonal eyeliner every day (uh, not like I haven’t entertained the idea, though), so naturally I am all sorts of delighted that they let Emma Watson keep hers on the August cover of Teen Vogue. Cover girls being permitted to show their natural skin texture? What a world! (“Emma Watson’s World,” apparently.)
