“I loved it! It was very energizing talking to Jay-Z. Just who he is, not having to do with all the cameras, but he really, genuinely spreads an aura of empowerment around him. And I suspect he was always able to do that even before fame. It’s not just directed at younger people. I picked up that feeling, too.”

– Ellen Grossman, the straphanger who was captured on film meeting Jay-Z on the subway, talks to NYMag.com about the rapper’s awesome aura. When he repeated his name to her, sheput two and two together. ”I thought about R&B … rap, that music, which I listen to occasionally because I want to be in touch,” she explained frickin’ adorably. Ellen is actually an artist and thinks that maybe there’s some similarities between her work and Jay’s music, so could a collaboration be in store? ”I don’t think I’m capable of altering what I do to tailor to him, but I think there might be some intersection,” she said. Maybe Hov could hire her to work on his next music video? Just a thought. I want this friendship to last foreva-eva. [NYMag.com]

"Are You Famous?"

Yesterday, on his birthday, Jay-Z’s YouTube page released a 24-minute documentary about his eight-night run at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn. The best moment in the great little film is when Jay takes the subway to his last performance (which, brag brag brag, I attended) and sits down to a lovely older woman named Ellen (she’s since been identified as artist Ellen Grossman), who doesn’t know who he is … at first. It’s an adorable exchange and the only thing that maybe would have made it better is if Beyonce had been there and taught Ellen the “Countdown” dance. But maybe Bey can consider such a scene for her upcoming documentary. Anyway, watch above! [HyperVocal]
