Lily Allen Thinks American Celebs Aren’t Normal, Abuse Adderall

“I wasn’t eating … [I was] going out at night. I guess when you’re not eating you have to distract yourself with other things. Come three o’clock it was like, ‘Oh I suppose it’s acceptable to have a glass of wine.’ And then by four o’clock I would have had four glasses. It’s not the way to be. But then I met Sam and he noticed that behavior. I think it came to a point for him where he was thinking, ‘Can I be with this girl if this is what her life is like? I want to make this work, but I can’t live in this world.’ I just needed someone to tell me … I hang out with models, the biggest pop stars and, you know, really and honestly, I hate saying this, but none of them are achieving those body shapes by being healthy. They’re not just going to the gym two hours a day. They’re not eating or they’re taking speed not to eat. In America everyone abuses that Adderall stuff and people aren’t normal.’”

Lily Allen talks about getting healthy in Elle UK. While I appreciate Lily’s candor and her embracing of a new lifestyle, I think she’s going to get lambasted for this interview. It reeks of self-righteousness. I’m sure someone in the modeling/music industry will make some counter-statement about how they don’t use drugs or starve themselves to stay thin. Also, American celebrities aren’t normal and all abuse Adderall? Really? What? Is she trying really hard to be controversial or is it a case of not thinking before she speaks? Reese Witherspoon Talks Some Sense Into The Women Of Hollywood

“How hard we are on people who are just doing their best. When we start measuring women on their appearance … We’re just too hard on each other. Women need to be more supportive of each other, stop tearing each other apart. There’s plenty of room for all of us. There’s plenty of men for all of us. There’s plenty of jobs. There’s plenty of room! I really believe it. Another actress out there has a number-one movie? They’re going to make more movies about women. A female writer sells a script? They’re going to look at another script from another woman. The better one woman does, the better all women do.”

Reese Witherspoon preaches girl power in Elle UK. Amen sister, Reese! I think this extends to other industries and facets of our lives as well. I believe jealousy amongst women holds us back from being more successful and satisfied as a gender. That kind of negativity takes up a lot of space within. It’s energy that we can be using to hold one another up. It’s so much easier to be happy for another woman’s success. Abundance, ladies, abundance. And with that, I believe my feminist statement quota for the day has been filled. [Celebitchy] Keep reading »

Elle UK Dresses Up The Underground With Designer Ads For Fashion Week

London Fashion Week is about to be a quarter-century old! (Insert joke here about quarter-life crises.) For its 25th anniversary, Elle UK is sponsoring a huge ad campaign, which went up today in tube stations all over the city. Having commissioned 25 designers to make posters, it’s clear the magazine gave the artists free reign on what they could dream up, because most don’t even reference Fashion Week. Matthew Williamson’s design features a tie-dye print; Mulberry came up with a crafty “Love” slogan with a peace sign as the O; Paul Smith’s illustration features different colored hangers intertwined in a squiggly mess.

What we’re really finding awesome, however, is Henry Holland’s take (above), “25 yrs of L.F.W. and all you get is this lousy poster,” which inadvertently pokes fun at London Fashion Week’s struggle to keep up with Paris and New York. Check out some of the other Elle posters after the jump! [Elle UK] Keep reading »

London Mayor Boris Johnson Is Elle UK’s New Cover Boy

Elle UK’s annual London issue is an homage to all things British, featuring the likes of Burberry’s Christopher Bailey as a guest editor, Brit songstress Lily Allen on the cover (watch a behind-the-scenes video of her shoot here) and … tousled London Mayor Boris Johnson (yes, BJ for short) on a special edition cover? Johnson wrote the fashion mag’s editor’s letter and can be found, arms crossed over his chest, semi-scowling from the center of certain copies of the issue. Cute and cheeky or misguided and silly? Watch Lily Allen Seriously Work The Camera

Check out this cute behind-the-scenes video of Lily Allen shooting “The London Issue” for Elle UK. Maybe she’s learned some modeling moves from her new bestie Kate Moss, because as mag photog Rankin notes, she kills it. Choice quotes include: “I love a wig on a celebrity”; “Lily is London”; “My weight fluctuates so much; the most important thing is being comfortable”; and “I thought she was gonna be cool, but she’s like, uber-cool.” [Pipeline] Keep reading »
