Angelina Jolie Says Her Cleopatra Won’t Be A Beauty Or Sex Symbol. Huh?

“[Cleopatra] has been very misunderstood. I thought it was all about the glamour, but then I read about her and she was a very strong mother, she spoke five languages and she was a leader. My performance will never be as lovely as Elizabeth’s. We are trying to get into a different truth about her as a pharaoh in history and not as a sex symbol, because she really wasn’t. Even this idea of her having many lovers—it was possible that it was only two. She is very interesting, but she wasn’t a great beauty.”

Angelina Jolie talks about Cleopatra, the role Elizabeth Taylor made famous and that Angelina will be taking a stab at in an upcoming movie to be directed by “The Social Network”‘s David Fincher. In the flick, Angelina claims the famous Pharaoh’s romances will be toned down and that her diplomacy and intellect will be played up. But I dunno—by casting Angie, isn’t it guaranteed the role will be sexy? [Huffington Post] Keep reading »

Nude Photo Of Elizabeth Taylor, Age 24, Surfaces

A nude photo of Elizabeth Taylor at age 24 has been released by a “private collector.” Yes, even Liz Taylor had a naked pic! Elizabeth reportedly had her friend Roddy McDowall take the photograph — in which she’s crouched naked on a shaggy carpet — as an engagement gift for her third husband Michael Todd. After Hubby #3 died, a heartbroken Liz reportedly gave the naked pic to her assistant/makeup artist, Penny Taylor. Somehow it found its way to “private collector” (of what, nude pics?) Jim Shaudis, who released the photo after Liz died on March 23. While it’s not exactly classy to bust out nude pics, I guess it’s somewhat more acceptable that the collector waited until her death. And let’s be honest: doesn’t girlfriend look damn fine? [Daily Mail UK] Keep reading »

Elizabeth Taylor Had Extra Eyelashes

Long before Latisse or any of the other eyelash lengthening potions were developed, Elizabeth Taylor rocked extra-long, extra-thick lashes. And now, just weeks after her death, the truth behind her lush lashes has been revealed: Taylor was born with distichiasis–or double rows of eyelashes. Thankfully, the mutation had few negative effects — though in some cases it can cause problems if the lashes begin to grow inward — but it did make some assume she was wearing makeup when she was not. Roddy McDowell, her co-star in “Lassie Come Home,” recalled:

“On her first day of filming, they took one look at her and said: ‘Get that girl off the set – she has too much eye make-up on, too much mascara’ … Guess what? They learned that she had no mascara on. She has a double set of eyelashes. Now, who has double eyelashes except a girl who was absolutely born to be on the big screen?”

In Death, Elizabeth Taylor Reveals James Dean’s Dark Secret

Elizabeth Taylor knew a painful secret about close friend James Dean—but, in a 1997 interview with Kevin Sessums, she asked the journalist not to reveal it until after her death. In a column for the Daily Beast, Sessums recalls that interview for POZ, a magazine dedicated to AIDS activism. “I loved Jimmy,” she said of her co-star and friend. “I’m going to tell you something, but it’s off the record until I die. OK? When Jimmy was 11 and his mother passed away, he began to be molested by his minister.”

“I think that haunted him the rest of his life. In fact, I know it did,” she continued. “We talked about it a lot. During Giant we’d stay up nights and talk and talk, and that was one of the things he confessed to me.” Read more… Keep reading »

Elizabeth Taylor Fashionably Late To Own Funeral, Did Last Interview With Kim Kardashian

At Elizabeth Taylor‘s funeral yesterday, the proceedings began exactly 15 minutes late. On purpose—this was one of Elizabeth’s final requests. “She even wanted to be late for her own funeral,” a spokesperson explained. Considering her renown, the ceremony was small and limited to friends and family. Apparently, Colin Farrell gave a reading. Then Elizabeth was buried in the Great Mausoleum, near her buddy Michael Jackson. Keep reading »

Required Liz Taylor Reading

In 1946, at the age of 14, Elizabeth Taylor wrote and illustrated Nibbles and Me, a memoir about her adventures with her pet chipmunk, Nibbles. She and Nibbles were practically inseparable during the shooting of “National Velvet.” A girl and her chipmunk. A must read. [Hug Party] Keep reading »
