Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former senator and presidential hopeful John Edwards, died today at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, after a six-year battle with breast cancer. Her family — which includes daughters Cate and Emma Claire, and son Jack — released a statement saying, “Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence but she remains the heart of this family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life.” Yesterday, it was revealed that Edwards’ cancer had spread to her liver and that further treatment would be unproductive. The 10 Juiciest Parts Of Cate And Elizabeth Edwards’ People Magazine Interview

Elizabeth Edwards is releasing her bestselling memoir Resilience in paperback and that means it’s time for a tell-all interview with People magazine. This time around, her eldest daughter, Cate Edwards, 28, joined her. Mother and daughter chatted with People about John Edwards‘ philandering, the divorce, his lovechild Quinn, and how Elizabeth is staying strong throughout chemo treatments for her stage-4 cancer.

Elizabeth’s money quote about the Rielle Hunter paternity test debacle is boring — “John’s conduct through this whole thing was terrible” — and they don’t touch the sex tape with a 10-foot pole. But there’s still some juicy gossip to sift through, after the jump. Keep reading »

Quotable: Elizabeth Edwards Relates To Sandra Bullock

“I’m not just a cuckolded wife … I think about Sandra Bullock — who I don’t know at all — what an incredible year she’s had. She won the Academy Award for an incredible performance, and more than that, she took that story and integrated that into her own life in this healthy happy way. And yet, the stories you hear are not about all those great successes, but about the failure of her marriage … that’s not who she is…I assume she wants to reclaim who she is in the same way I want to reclaim who I am.”

– Elizabeth Edwards on wanting to get back her life and identity post-split from John Edwards on “Today.” Ugh. Heartbreaking. We think Elizabeth is handling this whole situation with such class. [Celebitchy]

Cate Edwards Pens An Essay For People Magazine About Her Mess Of A Family

Cate Edwards speaks! This week’s People magazine will feature an interview with Elizabeth Edwards and her 28-year-old daughter, who will open up publicly for the first time about her dad, John Edwards, and her mother’s cancer. Cate has also penned a essay for People about her mom. “There are the things she taught without words [like] how to continue to live your life on your own terms when it somehow becomes savaged by people you never invited into it,” Cate wrote. The mother/daughter duo are promoting the paperback release of Resilience, Elizabeth’s bestselling memoir.

Cate, 28, is a graduate of Princeton and Harvard, a former editorial assistant for Vanity Fair and now clerks for a federal judge in Washington, D.C. Cate has every reason to play the Lindsay Lohan card — I mean, what would you do if your dad cheated with a professional wackadoodle like Rielle Hunter? — but the girl is nothing but a class act. John Edwards Scheduled To Give A Sworn Testimony About His Affair With Rielle Hunter

Mark your calendars for May 13, folks, and not because it’s the day after my birthday. On the 13th, John Edwards will be taking the stand in the case of Rielle Hunter versus Andrew Young. Back in January, Young started yapping about a sex tape of Edwards and Hunter that he had in his possession. Hunter sued Young for invasion of privacy, demanding that he return the tape along with several other personal items. After five hearings, it appears that he has done so. But the case is not over yet. Keep reading »

“The Wrath Of Elizabeth Is A Mighty Wrath”: Rielle Hunter, John Edwards’ Mistress, Speaks

At long last, John Edwards‘ mistress has spoken! Rielle Hunter gave her first-ever interview to Lisa DePaulo at GQ, jam-packed with quotes she’s gonna regret: about when they first met (“There was an instant and odd connection that we both felt.”), her weird ideas on gender roles (“I could not emasculate him!”), and even about their daughter, Quinn (“She was conceived in love. She is a love child.”) And, of course, the sex tape.

Hoo boy. The biggest shocker? Rielle Hunter is about 10 times more hippy-dippy-doodle than you can even imagine. She says things like, “We’re all slaves to our unconscious” and “The force field of our love overrode any issues that would arise from my belief systems.” And her business card reads “RIELLE HUNTER. BEING IS FREE.”

Yeah, seriously. After the jump, let’s wade through the muck and sludge that is Rielle Hunter’s interview with GQ: Keep reading »

Elizabeth Edwards Finally Kicks John To The Curb

Turns out that People got it right this week—Elizabeth Edwards has, in fact, reached her breaking point and is ditching her philandering hubby of 32 years. Yesterday, a spokesperson for Elizabeth confirmed that she is “moving on with her life after a excruciatingly painful period.” John has confirmed the story, too. He says, “It is an extraordinarily sad moment, but I love my children more than anything and still care deeply about Elizabeth.” Elizabeth is staying in the couple’s house, while John is shuffling between their beach home and an annex to the family house they refer to as “the barn.” She’s supposedly had divorce papers drawn up for more than a year, but just recently decided to move forward with the process. According to some reports, the final straw for Elizabeth was meeting John’s love child, Quinn, who is now 2 years old. Others say that John made the decision. A friend told the magazine, “John feels like, ‘I can’t live with you checking my cell phone, asking who I was with, where I went. That’s not how I want to live the rest of my life.’ I think they realized she still doesn’t trust him.” Regardless of how or why the decision was made, it certainly sounds like a good one. Rosie O’Donnell To Play Elizabeth Edwards?

I grew up in a liberal town in the very un-liberal state of North Carolina. In 1998, when John Edwards busted on the scene and took down Republican stalwart Lauch Faircloth, Edwards instantly became a local hero. For years, I thought he and his wife Elizabeth were the bee’s knees—a loving couple who’d had hard times (the death of a child, her cancer battle) but were still dedicating their lives to making the country a better place. Of course, after the revelation of John Edwards’ affair and subsequent love child, my impression of the couple shifted drastically. But a new book, Game Change, by journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin—which delves not only into the Edwards’ lives but all the major political figures involved in the 2008 election from Obama to Palin—has completely squashed any teenage idolization I had left for the Edwards. Book Proposal Says John Edwards Promised Rielle Hunter Dave Matthews Band At Their Wedding

A dishy new book proposal by a former aide says former Senator John Edwards wasn’t merely cheating on his long-suffering wife Elizabeth Edwards. According to Andrew Young, the senator promised Rielle Hunter he’d marry her after Elizabeth died from cancer in a rooftop ceremony in NYC with the Dave Matthews Band playing.

Urgent memo to Senator Edwards: Making romantic plans for after your wife’s death = tacky! [New York Times] Keep reading »
