The sordid tale of Senator John Edwards, his mistress Rielle Hunter, and Andrew Young, the campaign employee who went to great lengths to cover the whole affair up, is more complicated than a “Gossip Girl” plot. And that is saying something.

It’s day two of Edwards’ campaign finance trial — he has been accused of illegally using campaign funds to hide his pregnant mistress — and boy, is Andrew Young dishing some humiliating dirt about Edwards’ affair. I mean this in the least tasteless way possible, but it almost makes me feel good that his late wife, Elizabeth Edwards, isn’t around to hear about it.  Keep reading »

John Edwards And Rielle Hunter Might Be Engaged

John Edwards proposed to his mistress/mother of his lovechild Rielle Hunter three weeks after his estranged wife, Elizabeth, died from cancer, The National Enquirer has claimed. Granted, it’s the Enquirer, but the supermarket tabloid was originally right about him diddling former presidential campaign videographer, so they may know a thing or two. A source claims John proposed to Rielle during a “festive holiday getaway” when he introduced her to his children and that Rielle coldly told the Edwards kids — Cate, Emma Claire and John — to “call me mommy.” The couple already have a young daughter, Frances Quinn, who was the product of their affair (though John long denied he was her father).

If the couple does marry, it might make a prediction in a dishy tell-all book by John’s former aide, Andrew Young, true: John had allegedly promised Rielle they would marry after his sick wife died in a rooftop ceremony in New York City with Dave Matthews Band playing. Keep reading »

Elizabeth Edwards Leaves Cheating Ex John Edwards Out Of Her Will

Not that John Edwards deserved anything after cheating on his cancer-stricken wife and fathering a child with crazy lady Rielle Hunter, but color me surprised that Elizabeth Edwards, who died in December, has left her estranged hubby out of the will. Cate Edwards, the couple’s 28-year-old daughter, was made executor of the will, which leaves everything to her and her two younger siblings, Emma Claire and John. The will, dated just six days before her death, reads: “All of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewelry, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles … to be divided among them … ”

Elizabeth passed away after a long battle with cancer; after John’s tawdry affair with his presidential campaign videographer burst onto the pages of The National Enquirer, the couple had separated but not yet divorced. Personally, I think leaving John out of the will was a last little “f**k you” to him. Instead of sentimental artifacts of their marriage, he just gets stuck with parenthood with Rielle Hunter! Today’s Lady News: Crazies To Protest Elizabeth Edwards’ Funeral

  • Is resting in peace too much to ask for Elizabeth Edwards, who died on Tuesday from cancer? The anti-gay fundamentalist group Westboro Baptist Church will protest her funeral this weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina, supposedly for leading a covetous and godless life. Yeah, that won’t be even more traumatic for her kids Jack, Emma Claire and Cate Edwards. Let’s hope the mainstream media just ignores those a**holes. [CBS News]
  • The “Brenda Starr” comic strip will cease to run after January 2, the Tribune Media Company has announced. “Brenda Starr” has been a redheaded, world-traveling reporter for over 70 years. While she once appeared in over 250 newspapers, she lately only appeared in three dozen. Now she’ll go with the “Cathy” cartoon to that great lady cartoon strip in the sky. [The Wrap]
  • Ultrasounds may not be needed before taking the “abortion pill,” mifepristone, particularly because the extra cost added on by having a sonogram can make ending a pregnancy financially out of reach for some people, according to a new study. Ultrasounds usually cost $350 to $650 and are typically used to find how far along a pregnancy is; however, they are not necessarily medically necessary to safely use mifepristone, said Gynuity Health Projects in New York City. In Memorium Of Elizabeth Edwards: 5 Things To Know About Her Life

Yesterday, the world lost Elizabeth Edwards, 61, to cancer. Although her husband, former North Carolina Senator John Edwards, was the one who ran for office, Elizabeth was always an impressive co-pilot, charting her own way as a lawyer and political advisor. While the end of her life was marred by her husband’s cheating scandal with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter (which led to the couple’s separation), Elizabeth’s many contributions should not be forgotten. Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former senator and presidential hopeful John Edwards, died today at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, after a six-year battle with breast cancer. Her family — which includes daughters Cate and Emma Claire, and son Jack — released a statement saying, “Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence but she remains the heart of this family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life.” Yesterday, it was revealed that Edwards’ cancer had spread to her liver and that further treatment would be unproductive. The 10 Juiciest Parts Of Cate And Elizabeth Edwards’ People Magazine Interview

Elizabeth Edwards is releasing her bestselling memoir Resilience in paperback and that means it’s time for a tell-all interview with People magazine. This time around, her eldest daughter, Cate Edwards, 28, joined her. Mother and daughter chatted with People about John Edwards‘ philandering, the divorce, his lovechild Quinn, and how Elizabeth is staying strong throughout chemo treatments for her stage-4 cancer.

Elizabeth’s money quote about the Rielle Hunter paternity test debacle is boring — “John’s conduct through this whole thing was terrible” — and they don’t touch the sex tape with a 10-foot pole. But there’s still some juicy gossip to sift through, after the jump. Keep reading »

Quotable: Elizabeth Edwards Relates To Sandra Bullock

“I’m not just a cuckolded wife … I think about Sandra Bullock — who I don’t know at all — what an incredible year she’s had. She won the Academy Award for an incredible performance, and more than that, she took that story and integrated that into her own life in this healthy happy way. And yet, the stories you hear are not about all those great successes, but about the failure of her marriage … that’s not who she is…I assume she wants to reclaim who she is in the same way I want to reclaim who I am.”

– Elizabeth Edwards on wanting to get back her life and identity post-split from John Edwards on “Today.” Ugh. Heartbreaking. We think Elizabeth is handling this whole situation with such class. [Celebitchy]

Cate Edwards Pens An Essay For People Magazine About Her Mess Of A Family

Cate Edwards speaks! This week’s People magazine will feature an interview with Elizabeth Edwards and her 28-year-old daughter, who will open up publicly for the first time about her dad, John Edwards, and her mother’s cancer. Cate has also penned a essay for People about her mom. “There are the things she taught without words [like] how to continue to live your life on your own terms when it somehow becomes savaged by people you never invited into it,” Cate wrote. The mother/daughter duo are promoting the paperback release of Resilience, Elizabeth’s bestselling memoir.

Cate, 28, is a graduate of Princeton and Harvard, a former editorial assistant for Vanity Fair and now clerks for a federal judge in Washington, D.C. Cate has every reason to play the Lindsay Lohan card — I mean, what would you do if your dad cheated with a professional wackadoodle like Rielle Hunter? — but the girl is nothing but a class act. John Edwards Scheduled To Give A Sworn Testimony About His Affair With Rielle Hunter

Mark your calendars for May 13, folks, and not because it’s the day after my birthday. On the 13th, John Edwards will be taking the stand in the case of Rielle Hunter versus Andrew Young. Back in January, Young started yapping about a sex tape of Edwards and Hunter that he had in his possession. Hunter sued Young for invasion of privacy, demanding that he return the tape along with several other personal items. After five hearings, it appears that he has done so. But the case is not over yet. Keep reading »
