What comes to mind when you think of Ed Hardy? Tattoos? Tigers? Tacky?
The man behind the brand, french designer Christian Audigier, has listed his Los Angeles mansion for sale. The asking price? A cool $8.625 million (the home was bought for $4.78 million in January 2007). The seven bedroom, seven bath home is 8,276 square feet, so it’s going for about $1,000 per square foot. There’s even a buyer’s incentive — Audigier is throwing in a Rolls Royce Phantom 5 along with the sale of the home. The car alone is worth more than a hundred grand — enough to buy a house in many other cities.

Ke$ha, the terrifying offspring of Paris Hilton’s career and Lady Gaga’s wardrobe, has a new video out, “We R Who We R.” (I guess she texted that title to her producers.) It’s a wonderful homage to clubbing, raving, drinking, and dressing in clothes that barely cover your bottom. I’m not sure which outfit I like better: the one where it looks like Ed Hardy got a hold of the American flag, or the one that looks like she’s wearing a broken window. Personally, this video reminded me of a porn video, but without the hardcore sex: bad costumes, bad makeup, bad sets. Do underage girls watch these videos? I shudder to think. Keep reading »
It sounds like a rumor to me, but numerous blogs and entertainment sites (totally reliable!) are reporting that Lindsay‘s next big design project will be a line of handbags for … gulp, Ed Hardy. Last we heard, she was on the outs with Ungaro, but this is really kind of a drastic comedown. From Parisienne couture to a line that makes a Las Vegas hooker look classy? Oh lordy, how’s this for crazy back-from-Labor-Day-weekend news? There’s a scary rumor circulating that our fashion nemesis, Christian Audigier of Ed Hardy fame, has purchased Michael Jackson‘s Neverland Ranch. Um, yeah.
According to an interview with Agence France-Presse, Audigier said, “I bought the Michael Jackson house. It’s something I’m gonna open just for the birthday (sic) of his death every June, where the media is gonna be able to come in and we’ll do exposes, etc.”
Of course entertainment bloggers are having a field day with this, but we’re more concerned with the sartorial side of things. It’s not as if Neverland is known for being a tasteful setting per se, but plop some Ed Hardy crap in there and it’s officially the tackiest place on earth. We just hope this rumor is false. Jon Gosselin decided that after all that family time he spent at the Reading, PA, compound, it was time to get the hell out of dodge and see the world a little bit. So, what did ol’ Jonny do? He called up his new buddy, Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier, and got himself an invitation to hang on his yacht in Saint Tropez. He also decided to walk around France hand-in-hand with his new girlfriend just two weeks after Kate filed for divorce. And if that’s not enough JG news, his girlfriend, Hailey Glassman, is the daughter (she’s 22 years old) of Kate’s plastic surgeon. What a classy guy! Christian Audigier, purveyor of all things rhinestone-encrusted and hideously illustrated, is planning to show at Spring 2010 Fashion Week in Paris this Fall. This is the guy who designs for the likes of Ed Hardy, usually shows his creations at L.A. or Miami Swim Fashion Week, and likely clothed the greasy dudes who were grinding all up on you at the club last weekend. So while designers like Christian Lacroix struggle with bankruptcy, Christian Audigier is zeroing in on their legitimate fashion turf with his truly illegitimate “designs.” This makes us kind of sad.
