Fashion Writer Lynn Yaeger Buys Weird Dolls On Ebay

Apparently, iconic fashion writer Lynn Yaeger is obsessed with eBay. Since she first discovered the auction site about 12 years ago, Lynn has used it as a convenient alternative to flea markets and antique shows, snapping up an Hèrmes Kelly bag, multiple Becassine dolls, a bunch of Victorian children’s jewelry, and more (she used her high school French to purchase the Hèrmes bag on French eBay). It’s nice to know we aren’t the only ones addicted to this time-suck, scrolling through pages of items for hours on end! And not only does Lynn, who regularly contributes to Vogue, T, The New York Times Style Magazine, and other notable publications, troll the auction site every morning in search of her latest obsessions, but she’ll be contributing a few stories to eBay’s online magazine, The Inside Source, over the next few weeks. We can’t wait to hear her advice for scooping up fancy finds, plus, the photos of Lynn among her booty are priceless. [The Inside Source] Keep reading »

Now You Can Shop Oprah’s Closet

Oprah Winfrey is all about the generosity. After all, she devotes an entire episode of her talk show each year to gifting the guests with her favorite things. Now, in an effort to “de-clutter” her life, Oprah went through her entire closet, and chose 150 items to sell on eBay. But while I’ll go through my closet to raise funds for new shopping trips, Oprah has a philanthropic motive. The funds from her sale will go to her Leadership Academy of Girls, a school that she founded. So, while you’re relishing your new designer handbag which was previously owned by a media mogul, you’ll be able to feel good about your new purchase. Of the 150 items, you’ll find all of the big names — a Valentino satin evening bag, a Tahari purple silk dress coat, and even Chanel. Bid on your favorites until March 11! Profiting From Alexander McQueen’s Death?

Perhaps it’s unavoidable that after celebrity deaths, products associated with them go flying off the shelves. Alexander McQueen‘s case proves no exception as it looks like people are both running to scoop up the designer’s wares, or trying to make a quick dime by selling them off. Over the past two days, more than 200 new Alexander McQueen auctions have been posted to eBay, not only advertising clothing and accessories, but also old magazine issues featuring the designer, domain names, and even the New York Post cover announcing his death. Similarly, Refinery29 reports via Twitter that a Barneys branch in New York had sold 500 of McQueen’s signature skull scarves in one day. That must be some sort of record, as they don’t come cheap (about $275 each!). [eBay, TweetPhoto.com] Keep reading »

Straight Woman Auctions Her Right To Marry On eBay

How cool! A straight woman named Jamie Frevele is auctioning off her right to marry on eBay after New York State voted not to grant homosexual couples the right to gay marriage. Of course, a person can’t actually transfer a right on eBay, but all the money Frevele does earn off her eBay auction will go to The Point Foundation, which provides financial support, mentoring and leadership training to students who are marginalized by their sexual orientation. Says her eBay listing:

I will write you up a fancy, wonderful, articulate proclamation handing over my right to get married. I have no official documentation because this is something I was born with since I was born heterosexual. Unfortunately, this is only a symbolic gesture…Your bid, on the other hand, is real, and the donation you make to an organization that supports those who have been treated as second-class citizens will be well worth it.

You’ve got four days left to bid—and hey, now might be a good time to do your holiday charity donation! [eBay] Keep reading »

eBay Joins The Online Sample Sale Craze

My inbox is inundated with sample sales — from Gilt Groupe, Editor’s Closet, The Clothing Line, and Daily Candy’s updates. But now there’s one more to add to the list of tempting sales. eBay must feel left out, because they just launched their very own online shopping section. Their Fashion Vault opened with goodies from DKNY up to 70 percent off (which seem to have already sold out). So, if you’re searching for designer deals, make sure to sign up for their newsletter and prepare to click fast for your desired purchases. At least there are no girl fights involved over the last pair of shoes in the online world. [SHEFinds] Keep reading »

Shauna Sand Is Going To Sell Her Stuff On eBay

I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately, but I seem to have developed some kind of strange, vague obsession with Shauna Sand. There is something about a woman who walks around 24/7 in Lucite stripper shoes, who has turned herself into a kind of living Barbie, who may very well have produced her own sex tape (or not!), that captivates me. It’s like watching a zombie that looks like a living doll navigate the world in stilettos. Anyway. Now, Shauna’s gonna sell her stuff on eBay, and the video promo for it boggles. Boggles! I can’t believe I have to wait until Oct. 23 to bid on those rhinestone-and-Lucite heels. [Heyman Hustle] Keep reading »

Run, Do Not Walk, To Norma Kamali’s eBay Store

This morning we trekked through the rain to the Apple store in downtown NYC where we were treated to quite the unusual fashion show. In the spirit of “the democratization of fashion,” instead of hustling past bodyguards and navigating seat assignments there was no insane crowd as usual — even though I had an invite, no one checked and it seemed pretty open to whomever happened to be laptop shopping at 11 a.m. Seating was first come, first served (a practice which if applied to all shows would mean that they would actually start on time and not 30-45 minutes late, just sayin’). Anyway, Miss Kamali herself took the stage dressed in one of her signature jumpsuits and black cat glasses and chatted away with tech guru Omar Wasow about how technology has impacted the fashion business. Narciso Rodgriguez Could Design Line For eBay

Most designers wouldn’t touch eBay with a ten-foot pole because the online auction site routinely makes counterfeit pieces available to the public, but Narciso Rodriguez seems ready to take a chance. He’s in talks to design an eight-piece collection for eBay. The prices will range from $75 to $350, which means we common folk could possibly afford it, but the lower-priced line would also improve eBay’s reputation in the fashion world. Thoughts? Pill Popping To Get Pretty

Everyone knows that prescription pills are available to anyone looking for them, if you know how to search online. Not that it’s a legal means—but abusing prescription painkillers isn’t all that lawful to begin with. A year or two ago, we all heard about people buying the no-joke acne medicine, Accutane, online—without a prescription or monthly blood tests to monitor your liver health—and drug abuse took a whole new turn into beauty-land. Now, The Daily Mail is reporting internet pill abuse has hit an all new, um, high, and it’s all in the name of beauty. The fight to be skinnier, prettier and clearer-skinned knows no bounds, apparently. We all know buying anything off the internet or eBay comes with a certain level of danger—you always wonder, is it the real deal? But buying MD Skincare peel pads is way different than purchasing something you actually ingest—right? Keep reading »

True Story: Someone Actually Sold These On eBay

Yes, these filthy flip-flops were for sale on eBay and even managed to fetch $7.99. No, we’re not sure who icks us out more: the person who sold the sandals or the one who bought them. Either way, it just feels wrong. But what’s really worse? The fact that these are possibly not the grossest things that have ever been posted for sale on the auction site. Over the years, various vendors have blessed us with questionable retail items such as Justin Timberlake’s unfinished French toast (the bid went up to $3,154), a partially used pack of cigarettes (attracted 33 bids), and a group of 24 small kids (bidding ended at $51.) What’s the worst thing you’ve ever come across on eBay? [BuzzFeed] Keep reading »
