Someone Is Trying To Make Retro Period Belts Happen

Gather round, girls, let me tell you a story. Before the late-’70s, when Aunt Flo came to visit, women would have to wear contraptions called sanitary belts. They were diaper-like and came all the way up to an elastic waistband. Oh, the horror! Needless to say, when adhesive-back pads and tampons came around, no one was bummed to throw their crazy-ass period belt in the trash. But now, over 30 years later, someone is trying to resurrect the old time-y sanitary contraptions, and in white no less. Seller Elsayx has posted them for the buy-it-now price of $18.90. And they also come in men’s styles too — for that menstruating man in your life? Oy. [Trend De La Crème]

Shop The “Mad Men” eBay Auction

Have you been wishing you could look like lovely Betty Draper, or siren Joan Holloway, or any of the other sexy, stylish characters on “Mad Men”? Do you love ’60s fashion and wish you had access to the hit show’s wardrobe? Or, maybe you’d just love to outfit your apartment with some of the show’s cool mid-century props. Well, here’s your big chance. Beginning last night and going through the 22nd, furniture, props, and three iconic dresses worn on the show — including the green dress Joan wore in the infamous lawnmower episode — are up for auction on eBay. The 10-day celebrity auction will benefit the Lung Cancer Program and the City of Hope. “This auction offers Mad Men fans an exciting new way to connect with the series while helping to support City of Hope’s important work in research and treatment of lung cancer,” said Sandra Stern, the COO of TV for the show’s producer, Lionsgate. This is the sort of PR move Peggy might have come up with, don’t you think? Keep reading »

Trashy Or Sneaky-Smart: Red Sole-ing Your Pumps À La Louboutin?

Buying a knock-off is one thing … but making your own knock-off? Try searching for “Louboutin red soles” on eBay, and you’ll find a couple dozen auctions for red adhesive soles in the style of the classic Christian Louboutin touch. Some are being marketed as a product to use as protection for your real Loubs, but it’s also a sneaky way to make your pumps look like the real thing. Would you do this to your shoes? Think it’s a clever or stupid idea? [eBay] Keep reading »

Check Out The New eBay Fashion App

I’m a staunch believer in buying clothes and shoes on eBay. Though not a lover of used things, I am a huge fan of deals, and the enormous selection of new goods still tagged and in their boxes makes it my go to website when I’ve got something very specific in mind and don’t want to pay full price. (I got new studded Prada heels for $400 from $800 this summer, for example. Win.) Annoyingly, though, eBay’s iPhone app isn’t great for browsing, meaning that my shopping problems used to have to wait for a desk top. Now, however, I’ve been obsessing inappropriately all morning with the new eBay fashion app for iPhone. The app lets you store items you’re interested in a virtual “closet,” share links via Facebook, Twitter, and a whole cadre of other social media outlets and even build outfits using items from different parts of the site. Download it here. [Forbes] Keep reading »

Buy Jenna Jameson’s Old Shoes On eBay

Jenna Jameson, The Most Famous Porn Star in the World, is selling her old stuff on eBay. Have you long dreamed of owning a pair of Yves Saint Laurent black platforms that faintly smell of porn star feet? If you’re a size six and have a spare $1,299, you, my friend, are in luck. Looking for a pair of rhinestone bedazzled handcuffs worn by the star of “Smells Like … Sex”? They can be yours for a mere $89.99. Girlfriend has some good taste, though, seeing as the lot includes a pair of tan Tom Ford sunglasses that I would buy for $189.99, except for, well … you know. In any case, shop ’til you drop at the House of Jameson, girls! [House of Jameson] Keep reading »
