This week, we’re giving away a $200 JCPenney gift card to the best commenter on The Frisky. Whoever wins is going to have a tough time figuring out how to use it, so here’s an idea.
We’re always oohing and ahhing at the jewels celebs wear on the red carpet, from ginormous jade rings to intricate diamond and platinum bracelets, but, sadly, those statement makers don’t really have a place in our everyday lives. What we would wear pretty much every day, however, is a pair of diamond hoop earrings. They’d add some sparkle to our workday ensembles, and they’re elegant enough to pair with our best dress (should we ever have occasion to bring it out of the closet). [$229.99, JCPenney]
WIN THIS! We’re giving away a $200 gift card provided by JCPenney to use however you wish, but you have to work if you want it! The best commenter for this coming week — from today, Friday, Dec. 4 through Thursday, Dec. 10 — will be awarded with the gift card. So, be as clever, smart, and original as you can. Click HERE to read the official rules. And remember to check Gift For Gab on Dec. 11 to see if you’re the winner. Keep reading »
The perfect subliminal suggestion to get him telling you all his secrets, these earrings by Delfina Delettrez will get his motormouth running. That is, if you can afford them. The “Seven Sins” danglers are $1,400. [The Moment] Keep reading »
Last night as I was getting ready for a date, I sifted through my jewelry box, looking for something to accessorize my outfit. “Hey,” I thought. “Why do you never wear all these pretty earrings anymore?” I tried on a few dangly pairs, and promptly removed them—they really did change the whole vibe of my outfit. With some fancy vintage teardrop ones, I felt like I was coming from the opera. Gold medallion posts were pretty, but made me look a bit too grown up. I realized that I actually haven’t worn a pair of dangly earrings for about a year. And my friends? Not with any frequency that I can remember.
Looking at my collection, they just felt a bit dated and out of style. (Weirdly, not so much the earrings themselves, but how they looked on me.) What do you think? Do you reserve earrings for special occasions? Do you wear them regularly? Or are they a non-essential accessory? Keep reading »
At first look, these metallic earrings are rather cute. Not my style necessarily, but statement jewelry is in and there is nothing particularly off about them. At second look, I am permanently scarred and already have a call in to my therapist. I should actually be calling my gynecologist to see if these sperm and fallopian tube earrings are anatomically correct. If I am going to walk around with metallic reproductive organs on my lobes, I want to make sure they are at least realistically represented. I suppose they are unusual because no one in their right mind would think people would buy sperm earrings, but if I had remained in ignorant bliss I probably would have donned them on my next date. Good thing I have seen the light (and the contraceptive), for it would have been tres awkward if a date thought I was wearing sperm earrings to lure him in. [$70, Luna Parc] Keep reading »
I thought Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter had cornered the market on “random things to decorate your ears with” when she donned those radish earrings. Nope, not even close. Check out these freeze dried squirrel feet earrings and necklace. Taxidermy for your lobes — hot! I am not sure which disturbs me more: the knowledge that some poor squirrel in squirrel heaven has to watch his feet dangle around some random person’s neck in a very undignified fashion, or that the “designer” made them in the first place. Look, I’m not a vegetarian and I totally wear leather, but even I recognize that these earrings are just…wrong. Plus, they are truly hideous. [$20-$32, Etsy] Keep reading »
When you don’t have the money to buy a whole new outfit, it’s all about the accessories. For example, if you take a simple dress and add a jeweled brooch, you’re suddenly as stylish as Michelle Obama! The gems at 1928 Jewelry look as though you inherited your grandmother’s gorgeous baubles because they’re based on vintage jewelry from around the world. While you’ll look like a million bucks wearing this brooch, bracelet, or earrings, buying them will barely put a dent in your bank account. [prices vary, 1928 Jewelry]
We’re giving away the three 1928 Jewelry items pictured above to five readers, but you have to work if you want to shine like the top of the Chrysler Building. The five best commenters for this coming week — from today, Friday, Dec. 30 through Thursday, Feb. 5 — will be awarded with a set. So, be as clever, smart, and original as you can! Lulu Frost is a super-cool jewelry company that incorporates old hotel room numbers, antique charms, and rhinestone belt buckles into new necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. The only thing is, it’s a little too expensive for us, especially since the economy tanked. But now we can get budget-friendly pieces with the same family heirloom-feel from Lulu Frost’s Urban Outfitters line, Secret Garden. Oh, Lulu, how we love you! [$24, Urban Outfitters] Keep reading »
We’re obsessed with Margo Morrison’s jewelry line. She creates beautiful pieces out materials like abalone shell, peach moonstone, and labradorite. We especially love these itty-bitty oval, turquoise drop earrings. They’re effortlessly classy — just like us! [$75, MargoMorrison.com]
