It took me seven years East Coast winters to figure out, but ear muffs are essential to staying warm when the temperatures drop. You could be bundled up in your warm coat, gloves and scarf, with two sweaters and long johns layered underneath, but if your ears are exposed, you will still feel frozen. Not even listening to your favorite song on your iPod will distract from the feeling of your lobes growing painfully numb. I hope the genius at American Eagle Outfitters who realized the obvious and created earmuffs with built-in headphones got a promotion and a raise.
