Beauty Test Drive: Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo

Beauty Test Drive: Klorane Dry Shampoo

Between my super dry scalp and the cold winter weather, I’ve been trying really, really hard to wash my hair less often. This is not a fun goal to have when your hair is very blonde and does not hide oil well. The solution to extending the time between hair washing without having super gross hair? Dry shampoo, of course! But finding the right dry shampoo for me turned out to be more of a “Goldilocks & The Three Bears” situation than I expected. After trying dry shampoos that were too clumpy, too smelly, too powdery, too heavy, and too light, I finally found one that was juuuuuuust right: Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk. Step Away From The Sink! The Best (And Worst) Of Dry Shampoos

Dry shampoo, while not exactly a new commodity (drugstore brand Psssssst! has been around for god knows how long; seriously, I Googled it and couldn’t find out), has received more hype than ever in the past few years. I ascribe the uptick in use (and, consequently, offerings) to the fact that less women are washing their hair every day than they did previously. We’re now more aware of how daily washing can affect factors like hair color (especially if you pay good money to get it done) and condition (both dry and oily hair types can benefit from washing less). I, for one, wash mine three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. I frankly hate to wash my hair because I hate to wait for it to dry, and I also hate to blow-dry it myself. I don’t know which I hate more, actually…

Anyway, on those days in between, I’m showering with a cap at night (come on, I’m not gross) and using dry shampoo in the morning. It usually only buys me a day (one dry shampoo day after another is not a good look), but that is one glorious day. I have super-fine, wispy hair and I find that dry shampoo actually makes it easier to style and work with whether it’s freshly-washed or second-day. Bottom line: I am a huge, huge proponent of dry shampoo, and I’ve tried so many that I consider myself somewhat of an authority (humor me, please) on the stuff. I’m also a terrible (really awful, seriously) snob, so if I like something, it’s probably pretty good. Behold, my roundup of the best dry shampoos and what makes them great — and at the end, if you’re curious, a quick summary of the ones that I would rather go greasy than use.

Beauty Test Drive: Rene Furterer’s “Naturia” Dry Shampoo

I really hate blow-drying my hair. The time. The discomfort. The general dissatisfaction with your non-professional job. Yet for me, blow drying is an absolute necessity thanks to my weird genetic makeup which gave me a mop of crazy curly hair on the top and straight hair beneath that. So I try to get away with washing my hair every other day (sometimes more if I can swing it). I’ve tried dry shampoos in the past and never thought they worked very well. I guess I just never found the right one because I recently discovered Rene Furterer’s “Naturia” dry shampoo, which has changed my beauty routine. Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Klorane Dry Shampoo Changed My Life — And It Could Change Britney Spears’

Distressing, but not altogether shocking news from the Britney Spears’ rumor mill; according to a source who spoke with Heat magazine, Brit’s boyfriend Jason Trawick is getting fed up with her poor hygiene. Spears goes days without showering and changing her clothes — not to mention her weave — and as a result, the source says, “She hates washing her hair, so sometimes it can smell downright sour.”

Sigh. Britney, my sister, I feel you on the not -showering-and-washing-your-hair thing. But allow me to introduce you to my new best friend in my quest to skip washing my locks: dry shampoo. Keep reading »

If You Could Get Away With It, Would You Wash Your Hair Less?

By now you know we can be kind of lazy when it comes to, oh, showering and stuff around here. We’re way too busy blogging to spend precious hours on piddling details such as personal hygiene. (Just kidding, we don’t, like, stink or anything. Also, we’re saving the planet, gah!) But especially if you have long hair, you know that you really can spend a whole evening washing it, and those with really fine hair have to shampoo more often than most of us because it gets greasy faster, and it’s just a great big time suck. Enter the miraculous beauty product that is dry shampoo. Keep reading »
