11 Child Stars Who Sought Emancipation

urns out Jaden Smith doesn’t really want to be emancipated from his parents—but these 10 child stars, rounded up by the Huffington Post, did:

  • Drew Barrymore petitioned for emancipation in 1991, when she was 15, in order to skirt child labor laws that were restricting the hours she could work.
  • Alicia Silverstone did the same thing, at the same age, so she could film The Crush in 1993.
  • Michelle Williams was also emancipated at age 15, but she later said she was “stupid” to live on her own: “I didn’t know what I was taking on.” Read more on Newser…

I know printed pants are not super popular ’round these parts, because a while back I did a post about styling printed denim, and the overwhelming response on Facebook and Twitter was “WHY DOES THIS EXIST?” So I’m going to go out on a limb and admit it: I really like these floral pants Drew Barrymore is wearing. I think the bright colors and fun print suit her perky personality, and I love how she paired them with red heels and a subtle black blouse. Now for the moment of truth: what do you guys think?

Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon are old pals — in addition to starring together in the rom-com “Fever Pitch,” Fallon is married to Drew’s bestie and business partner. So I suppose that’s why they trusted each other enough to experiment with new makeup looks on last night’s episode of “Late Night.” Jimmy got especially wily with the lip liner though… (P.S. I am seriously digging Drew’s voluminous and curly high pony.)

I came really late to the powder foundation game. I remember all these girls way back in high school with their little Cover Girl compacts. But me, I’ve usually kicked it old school with regular foundation and then set it with powder. Why I did this, I don’t know. It involved twice as many brushes to get dirty and I’ve never really liked the flaky way powder sits on my skin.

But I think that’s all changed now with the new powder foundation I’ve been using from Drew Barrymore’s Flower line with Walmart. I’ve already kvelled about her Flower lip butter. Turns out that I’m also a big fan of her creamy powder foundation. My fabulous Beauty Test Drive pal Winona claims “obsessed” with her Jane Iredale powder foundation — but Flower’s powder foundation does not come with the same $52 price tag! Keep reading »

Flower lip butter

Never in the million years did I think I’d be recommending you a product sold exclusively at Walmart, renowned big box store of sex discrimination lawsuits and sexist tee shirts. Neither would I have suspected that Drew Barrymore, hippie goddess of love and light, would choose Walmart to exclusively sell her makeup line, Flower. But she did, and I am, and honestly, her Flower lip butter is the best lip product I’ve ever used. Yes, better than the expensive department store lipsticks and drug store lip crayons. It’s the shit. For realz.

I went home from a Flower event with a bag full of goodies to test drive and the quality of all of them is very high. I’ll review them one-by-one, but first up, the lip butter!

Hippie mama Drew Barrymore appeared on “Good Morning America” in this flowy bohemian outfit to promote her new makeup line, “Flower” (which Jessica is already obsessed with–stay tuned for a Beauty Test Drive!). I really like the pleated skirt paired with ankle boots, but that top is way too shapeless for my taste. What do you think?
