Get Some Shut-Eye With Dita

Ever fashionable and classy-styled Dita von Teese is bringing her aesthetic to the bedroom, thanks to Moschino. The retro queen, known for her red lips and soft Hollywood curls, put her design mind to work to create a limited-edition sleep mask for the brand. In the end, Dita fashioned a pink silk-satin eye mask with rhinestone embellishments, feathers and lace with trompe l’oeil eyelash detailing, complete with its very own case (all for $130), so now even falling asleep can become a stylish moment. What’s even better is the fact that 30 percent of the proceeds will be donated to amfAR. So sleep soundly knowing your new purchase is going towards a good cause. [Moschino] Keep reading »

Quotable: Dita Von Teese Has A Way More Exciting Job Than You

“I hired trip ropers for roping lessons for my cowgirl show. I hired a bull rider to teach me how to ride my mechanical-bull lipstick. And yeah, I smoked opium the traditional way to ‘get a feel’ for my Opium Den show. Research!”

Quotable: Dita Von Teese Is Not Your Typical Sex Symbol

“When I first started doing what I do, a lot of my fans were men. It is interesting the way it has shifted and the majority of my fans are women now. Probably 80 percent, but I can see why. I started thinking about that more over past several years why that is and I think a lot of women like to see another kind of sex symbol that doesn’t fit into the blonde, tanned, California beach babe beauty.”

Quotable: Dita Von Teese Doesn’t Understand Why “Stripper” Has A Negative Connotation

“I don’t mind being called [a stripper] because that is what I do, but I don’t understand why there is such a taboo attached to it. Basically what I do is like an actress that has nude scenes in a movie, it’s part of the role and its part of what my show is. It’s not really any different. I think it’s just too easy for people to criticize.”

Quotable: Dita Von Teese Plays “Dress Up”

“Women like to see another kind of sex symbol that doesn’t fit into the blonde, tanned, California beach babe beauty. I can never fit into that role, so I think there are other women like me that say ‘no, me neither’…You can put on red lipstick and put on black gloves and you can curl your hair and play dress-up. Then if you’re tired of it you can just get rid of it. It is not like you have to go to a tanning salon and do all these things to make yourself a certain way, it’s something you can try on and leave.”

Get Dita’s Hair For The Holidays

Little known fact: Dita’s mama is a hair dresser. Second little known fact: Dita consulted with her to create this line of shampoo, conditioner and hairspray, which is available as a holiday gift package that’s all wrapped up nice and pretty and includes, drumroll please … a signed and kissed card by Dita herself. (Or, while we’re being realistic here, maybe an ample-lipped assistant?) Who cares — it’s a great gift idea, and at $49.95, dare we say, reasonable? Order it here. [BellaSugar] Keep reading »

Quotable: Dita Von Teese On Why She Appeals To Women

“They are attracted by the message I bring, I’m not about supermodel beauty, but more about natural beauty. The girls with black hair and pale skin, who don’t look fantastic in a bikini, can see in me someone that supports them in their quest for a more alternative sensuality … You can play dressing up with elegance or make a striptease for your significant other. The essence of burlesque is about dressing up properly, enjoying glamour, and taking more time for yourself.”

Hair Model Citizen: Dita Gives Good Head

Nobody works glamorous, 1940s pinup-girl style like the one and only Dita Von Teese. She gets an honorable citation today for denouncing the modern trend of sloppy ‘dos by sticking with a classic formula that looks good on her every time. Here’s how you can recreate the look: Treat slightly damp, towel-dried hair to a dose of Redken Crystal Curls Defining Shine Gel. Divide hair into multiple sections (about two inches each), and roll into large curlers, securing with bobby pins. Either go to sleep (if you’re doing this overnight) or use a blowdryer to completely dry your hair. Remove curlers, part to one side, and touch up with hairspray for hold and to smooth flyaways. Hey, we didn’t say looking this good was easy. [Madrid, 10/5/09] Keep reading »
