Disney Princesses With Realistic Waistlines Look Utterly Fabulous

Disney Princesses With Realistic Waistlines Look Utterly Fabulous

What if Disney princesses had realistic waistlines? Well, they would look pretty fab. No doubt about it.

Buzzfeed’s Loryn Brantz decided to digitally edit six famous ladies – Ariel (“The Little Mermaid”), Pocahontas (“Pocahontas”), Jasmine (“Aladdin”), Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”), Aurora (“Sleeping Beauty”) and Elsa (“Frozen”) — to show what the cartoon heroines would look like if they had more realistic physical proportions. After all, since these characters are supposed to represent people in films made for children, they should probably look more like real people, right? Read more on Huffington Post Women…

On Abuse & Seeing What We Don’t Want To See

Here are two things I never expected to be told in the same breath: “You’re so skinny! This will look cute on you,” and “I’m pretty sure you’re lying about that time your dad molested you.”

Nine months ago, I confronted my father about sexually abusing me as a child. Since then, my communication with my family has been limited, and it caught me off-guard when, just two weeks ago, my aunt invited me to meet her for lunch. I impulsively agreed, and initially, we started on the right note. After a few minutes of polite pleasantries, she handed me a gift bag. Inside, I found a hand-me-down Ann Taylor blazer with the tags still on (“I love the pattern, but it just doesn’t fit me”) and a copy of Meredith Maran’s My Lie: A True Story of False Memory (“I learned so much from this book. It’s amazing how unreliable our memories are, don’t you think?”). Never before had I felt so flattered and insulted all at once. Keep reading »

Disney Isn’t “Brave” Enough To Leave Princess Merida As Is

When Disney’s “Brave” came out last year, I was thrilled. So excited, in fact, that I went to see the movie at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles, complete with a pre-movie live show!

I am a not-so-closeted Disney fan. Though I’d never take my love this far, I did grow up a mere 25 minutes from Disneyland, had an annual pass all through college, and, at 25, toted around a (somewhat embarrassing) Disneyland laptop sleeve given to me by my best friend.

So how could this ginger of Scotch-Irish descent not be stoked to watch the animated story of a stubborn, Scottish, redheaded princess? I couldn’t resist! I hadn’t lacked for a ginger Disney Princess to pretend to be while growing up, but Merida felt so much more authentic than Ariel. She had wild frizzy hair (no dinglehopper could comb that mass), and fierce independence — she’ll fight for her own destiny, thank you very much.

DSW Launches Glass Slipper Collection For Wannabe Cinderellas

A Capella Disney Songs
This mega mix of Disney tunes will blow your mind. Watch »

If your efforts to land a rich prince have been unsuccessful thus far, maybe it’s time to switch up your footwear choices. An excellent bet for aspiring princesses? DSW’s new Glass Slipper collection, a collaboration with Disney to celebrate the October 2nd release of “Cinderella” on Blu-Ray. Available in stores and online on October 1st, the limited edition collection will include a variety of heels (none of which are actually made of glass) embellished with fairytale-worthy jewel and lace accents, priced from $59.95 to $89.95. Each shoe will include an embossed carriage logo, but alas, no tracking mechanism for that inevitable moment when it falls off your foot as you rush out of a ball at the stroke of midnight. Guess you’ll still have to rely on a determined prince and Craigslist missed connections to be reunited with your lost slipper. [Racked]

  • Mommy gets a 3D sonogram — and a couple years later, your precious bundle of joy can place with a Disney princess doll with her own face on it. For $99, Disney will graft the likeness of your child’s face on a seven-inch Disney Princess doll. Parents who want to make the sweet/creepy gesture can choose from Belle, Cinderella, Tionna, Snow White, and several others. Interestingly, the age restriction for D-Tech Me dolls is from 3 to 12, but there doesn’t seem to be a restriction for girls-only. [Mommyish]
