Ryan Gosling Gives Al Roker The Time Of His Life

Listen, I don’t want to be posting this often about The Gos. I really don’t. Every time I watch a video of him or see a super sexy photo (aka all photos of him ever), I feel like a diabetic who’s been locked inside a cupcake shop. Look but don’t touch! Or else someone will file a restraining order! Anyway, Ryan is promoting “Crazy Stupid Love” like, well, crazy this week and he can’t help but do something blog-worthy during each appearance, so bear with me. This is my job. I am answering the call of duty. Here he is demonstrating his “Dirty Dancing” move on Al Roker. Nobody puts Ryan in a corner. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »

No Movie Is Safe From Becoming A Remake

Lately, we’ve been noticing that no movie from your childhood (or your parents’ for that matter) is safe from being remade. “Annie” is being rebooted with Willow Smith in the lead role and new songs by Jay-Z. Warner Brothers is currently working on a remake of “The Bodyguard,” the Whitney Houston classic. Kate Winslet recently rocked period garb for a reimagining of “Mildred Pierce.” Oh, and did we mention that “Dirty Dancing” is getting the remake treatment, too? Sometimes, remakes are a great idea. Other times—and let’s be honest, usually—we wish filmmakers would leave good enough alone. So, we decided to steal a play from New York Magazine and make an Approval Matrix of all the movie remakes. After the jump, the details on these movies. In the comments, sound off on any movies you think we’ve wrongly categorized. And let us know where you’d place the remakes we didn’t include. Argentina’s “Dancing With The Stars” Is Basically Porn

Did you know that “Dancing with the Stars” exists in other countries? Yeah, I didn’t either, but I guess I live under a rock. Anyway, I don’t have any clue who these “stars” are on the Argentinian version of the show, but I found them way more entertaining than Bristol Palin or that Pussycat Doll chick. But maybe that’s because the dancing on Argentina’s “Dancing with the Stars” is practically NC-17-worthy. There’s g-strings and dry humping and miming oral sex and I am pretty sure someone had an orgasm at the end there. All around, I give this performance a 10! Keep reading »

How Dirty Dancing Ruined My Love Life

I was 10 years old when my mother took me to the movies to see “Dirty Dancing.” I, like so many women, fell head over heels in love—with the movie, with the soundtrack, and most definitely with Patrick Swayze. I loved that movie so much that when I couldn’t sleep at night I used to recite the movie in my head line by line.

  • Why was 50 Cent on the “Rachael Ray Show” today? Oh yeah, he’s trying to put his iron in every fire possible. [F-Listed] — These are two of my least favorite celebrities.
  • Creators of the highly anticipated Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando have revealed that the park will include a “Forbidden Journey” ride set in Hogwarts Castle. [Reuters] — Sounds like my own personal hell, but I know Potter fans are jumping for joy.

A “Dirty Dancing” Remake? We Have Suggestions So It Won’t Suck.

It’s the year of the dance movie remakes. First, “Footloose,” and now Lionsgate has announced the epic comeback of “Dirty Dancing.” The original not only turned Patrick Swayze into a star, but pulled in more than $200 million back in 1987 and was the first movie ever to sell a million video copies. Julia Dahl (“Uptown Girls”) will be writing the remake script, but there’s no news on who’ll be cast as Johnny or Baby, or whether they’ll bring back original choreographer Kenny Ortega (who directed the “High School Musical” series). [The Guardian]

“Dirty Dancing” was my fave when I was a tween, but after the disaster that was “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights,” I hope they don’t screw this up! I’ve got some suggestions on how to not murder the classic movie memories. Keep reading »

She’s Like The Wind: “Dirty Dancing” Lift Machine

As Patrick Swayze courageously battles cancer, his legendary spirit has lifted lots of Americans…literally. Thanks to the “Dirty Dancing” Lift Machine, lucky fans have been getting “Baby”-ed. Over two decades after Swayze splashed around with Jennifer Grey, making every girl swoon with jealousy, regular folks have experienced the “Time Of Their Life” and completed the glorious dance move immortalized in the final dance of the flick. While the machine won’t accidentally drop you in the water during practice like Swayze, we’re already wet from the idea of this romantic gesture, albeit mechanical.

The Matrimommy: Not Lovin’ McLovin’

My two and a half year old son has taken to calling himself “McLovin’”. Needless to say, that is not his name.

This new moniker originated courtesy of my husband, R. who, clearly in a moment of amazing judgment, decided to watch a portion of Superbad with our toddler son. As if exposing a toddler to this generation’s Porky’s wasn’t moronic enough, neglecting to remember that he recently has been parrot-like in his repeating of everything he hears just adds insult to the cinematic injury.
