Well, almost: Designer Missoni’s diffusion line for Target is just around the bend, and the first shots of the collection have begun eeking out. Here we have pieces from both the apparel and travel collections on display in Missoni’s signature colorful patterns. The collection will include around 400 items, including men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, luggage and housewares–with most items allegedly costing less than $40. Rag & Bone, one of our favorite tomboy-perfect lines, is set to launch three diffusion collections next month. The collections will focus on basics (which, to be honest, doesn’t seem too far from the already generally basic style of the brand), with the fairly self-explanatory titles of JEAN, KNIT, and SHIRT. Expect good everyday staples like skinny jeans, perfectly constructed and worn tees, as well as button-ups that combine just the right amounts of preppy and hipster flair. Keep reading »
We already love the young, Paris-based designer Rad Hourani’s aesthetic–which, as WWD puts it best, is all about “experimental cuts and hard-edged rocker-Goth vibe.” The $500 to $5,000 price tags? Eh, not so much. So we’re completely overjoyed to hear that Rad by Rad Hourani is coming to a store (or website) near us soon. The diffusion line will be a more reasonable $100 to $300, and, even cooler, is made up of angular cuts in a gritty black, white, and charcoal palette and designs that are unisex. (Although, it would take an unusually stylish man to rock some of the looks.) Whether it will be more of a hit with the boys or girls, we’re totally feeling the drapey yet structured feel that’s so reminiscent of Comme des Garcons, Ann Demeulemeester, and, of course, Rad himself, served up at much lower prices. So apparently execs over at Target had an opportunity for The Blessed Ones–Serena and Blair, of course– to wear Anna Sui’s “Gossip Girl” inspired Target clothing line on the show, and they turned it down because the teen drama may be a little too racy for their tastes. In fact, they’re shying away from the “Gossip Girl” influences in Sui’s Fall ’09 diffusion line entirely.
According to The Daily News, “One of Target’s top executives got nervous about being that closely associated with the show, given the [debauchery] its characters get into.” Sure, drugging your friends (yeah, we’re pointing at you, Georgina), and screwing anything that moves (we’re pointing at you, umm, entire G.G. cast), isn’t exactly model citizen kind of behavior, but if this show has taught us anything, it’s that bad behavior doesn’t necessarily go hand-in-hand with dressing badly. Or um, something like that. [Ed Note: Also, it's just a freakin' TV show, right? Sheesh!] But what do you think?
