Not A Joke: Diane Von Furstenberg Designs Hospital Gowns

Can you make a stay in the hospital fashionable? Diane von Furstenberg was willing to try when the Cleveland Clinic enlisted her expertise to redesign the classic hospital gown. In classic DvF style, she slapped an iconic print on her design, made them reversible, and incorporated a wrap construction (of course). The design also doesn’t expose the butt like standard hospital gowns, but instead allows the patient to reveal certain parts of the body without being completely exposed. So far, the Cleveland Clinic reports that patients are generally enthusiastic about the change. Well, except for the guys: “Men feel a little uncomfortable and feel it’s slightly feminine.” [Newsweek via DNA Info] Keep reading »

Sleepover In Diane Von Furstenberg’s Room!

The lady who gets to stay in the Diane Von Furstenberg-designed suite at Claridge’s hotel in London is one lucky girl. DVF just unveiled her creation and it’s pure Furstenberg class, filled with deco-inspired furniture, a regal marble fireplace, and the designer’s iconic prints in a myriad of splashy colors. In the bathroom: DVF bathrobes, so you’ll definitely want to be stealing those. Or, you could just buy yourself one of her wrap dresses for the same price as a night in her hotel room. Should Fashion Knockoffs Be Illegal?

Over the weekend, a fashion industry caucus called the “Congressional Apparel Manufacturing and Fashion Business Caucus” was approved in Washington, DC. Boring though the name may be, the things they’d like to get done are actually pretty cool. Aside from the expected aim of curtailing design copying and counterfeiting, the caucus will also focus on getting funding for a design incubator program, scholarships for fashion students and saving New York’s Garment District. Third-term CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg has expressed interest in creating actual laws against design stealing, and this caucus could be a legit step towards that. Or it could prove to be yet another useless bit of Washington red tape. Do you think the relentless copycatting should be regulated? [Fashionologie] Keep reading »

Using A Flat Iron To Make Waves? Inconceivable!

Here’s a beauty riddle for you: How can you get a wavy hairstyle using a straightening iron as your main tool? (Cue “Jeopardy” music.)

Stumped? Look to Diane von Furstenberg‘s runway hairstylist Orlando Pita, who created this romantic, wavy-crimped ‘do for her spring 2010 show. The process is surprisingly easy. Using a mister to slightly dampen the model’s locks, Pita made cornrows (but to make it easier, we’d recommend just making several long braids of varying thickness), then clamped them down with a straightening iron, which both set the style and sped up drying time. Another surprise: Pita recommends leaving the wavy hair completely natural, nixing any product additions for an extra “soft” look. [Elle.com] Keep reading »
