Do You Eat Chocolate In Designer Clothes?

Barbie has her Christian Louboutin shoes, and now the Cadbury Carmel Bunny is getting designer duds too. (Because candy mascots obviously need their own designer pieces.) “It” designer Giles Deacon dressed the sassy-looking bunny in a strapless dress with chocolate polka dots, complete with a matching scarf in the form of a bow, all for the launch of the dessert brand’s limited-edition collection, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel Nibbles. Delicious and fashionable. On a charitable note, the scarf is all about supporting Breast Cancer Awareness. It will be available for free on select fashion sites on Oct. 29 and 30, and then for sale at John Lewis stores. Proceeds will benefit Fashion Targets Breast Cancer U.K.

Sadly, the dress is not for sale, but feed us enough chocolate and we’ll be happy. [My Fashion Life]

Will You Buy Designer FitFlops?

My roommate swears by FitFlops, those fugs sneakers/sandals that give you a workout while you walk, claiming she’s seen changes in her calves and rear. But I’m not convinced and would rather spend more time at the gym than wear those curved clunkers. Though I might be persuaded to try them now, as Anna Sui has designed a pair to look like warm, cozy moccasins, which are just in time for winter and conveniently hide the curvature. The boots, named Shakoha, come in three colors — brown, black, and blue — and are made with double-faced shearling, suede, metal studs, and hand stitching. When there are inches of snow on the ground, who doesn’t want to be bundled in perfect snow boots? What’ya think? [FitFlop]

Famous Teen Enters the Fashion Design Game, Ahem

Seems like everyone wants to be a fashion designer these days, especially celebrities. Selena Gomez — yes, that chick on the Disney Channel — decided that she’d like to join in the fashion fun, so here comes Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez. “Growing up in Texas, I was sort of close-minded and kind of a tomboy, but as I’ve traveled, I found such a love of clothes,” Selena said. “It’s really always been a dream of mine to have a line.”

To turn that dream into, uh, clothes, she began working with former Generra designer Tony Melillo and Sandra Campos. Born was a collection based on her own style, which is a mix of “pretty, feminine and bohemian” looks, and is partially made with organic and recycled or eco-friendly fabrics. The line will launch for fall 2010, but so far they’re still looking for a retail store to partner with exclusively. So you’ll have to hold your breath on where to purchase the Selena looks you love. Um, yeah. There’s always The Disney Store! [WWD] Keep reading »

Has The Fashion Industry Lost Its Mystique?

Along with the joys of the internet and immediate information comes some sense of a loss. It’s a race to get information first; runway shows can be streamed online now; with Twitter, fashion editors are commenting on trends right from the runway; and designers are participating in documentaries to show off their processes. Does all of this access take away the mystery of fashion? Keep reading »

The Woman Behind Valentino and Chanel

Did you know that designer greats Coco Chanel and Valentino Garavani didn’t achieve fashion icon status on their own? As it turns out, French designer Madeleine Vionnet was more than a little responsible for their massively successful couture feats. Not only did she reshape the fashion world with the “invention” of the bias cut, cowl neck, halter top, and handkerchief dress, she helped create a truly progressive style for women in the early 20th century. You know how French women always look gorgeous, modern, and like they never try too hard? That was her. Keep reading »

Statement-Making Art: Liquidated Logos

Will you find yourself in Hong Kong soon-ish? Stop by the Art Statements Gallery for a look-see of French street artist Zev’s wild new exhibition, “Liquidated Logos.” Zev, known for his shadow drawings in the streets of Paris, is “flipping the script” on world-renowned brands such as Coca-Cola and Chanel, and with this show is broadening his scope to include fashion icon Louis Vuitton. Using his trademark technique of “liquidation,” he reinterprets Takashi Murakami’s Louis Vuitton pattern, Chanel’s famous double “C” logo and the arches of Mickey D’s, among others. (To drum up some press for the opening, Zev took to the streets of labels-obsessed Hong Kong, painting a “liquidated” Chanel logo atop the flagship Giorgio Armani store to “reflect the war of brands.” He was arrested and Armani, as you may have guessed, was not all that pleased, mostly because the limestone store facade soaked up the black paint, making it pretty impossible to remove the errant logo.) For more photos of the exhibition, check out Arrested Motion. [Cool Hunting] Keep reading »

Big girl bombshell Beth Ditto has already made us swoon with her songs and her sass, but now she’s going to conquer a business that has typically seemed a little small minded for a lady like her- fashion.
