Collab Bag: Alexander Wang And Nike?

The latest in the designer collab rumor mill? Alexander Wang may be doing a collaboration with Nike. The only details out about it is that a “very credible source” says it’s true, which, uhhh … anyhow. Let’s just for a minute imagine the possibilities. Affordable Alex Wang sweats? We might actually be into sweating in them and unafraid to get them dirty. We’ll be staying tuned on this particular collaboration for sure.

Breaking: Gap And Valentino To Collaborate

Looks like Lanvin’s H&M collection may be getting some competition. The Gap has just announced that it will work with the House of Valentino to produce a special collection, due out late November. There aren’t too many details yet about what we can expect, although the designers for the project, Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiui and Pier Paolo Piccioli, said, “We are very pleased that Gap thought of us as a partner for this intimate project, as it brings together the iconic world of Valentino and Gap’s fashion essentials. In this way, Valentino and Gap synthesise the current trend of combining luxury with basics.” Keep reading »

H&M Scores Lanvin Collab In What Is Probably The Biggest High-Low Coup Yet

The speculation and rumors have been confirmed. Lanvin will indeed be designing a collection for H&M, due in stores November 23. Although H&M wasn’t planning on disclosing the answers to their mysterious designer interview videos, the interwebs went nuts after guessing that one video featured Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz, so the retailer released a clip revealing Elbaz’s face. In the video, the he says, “When H&M approached us to do this collaboration, they asked if I could actually translate the dream that we created at Lanvin to a bigger audience. It wasn’t a project about a dress for less … I loved the idea that H&M is going luxury rather than Lanvin is going public.” Interesting. Does that mean we can expect price points to be higher than normal for H&M? Keep reading »

H&M Releases Cryptic Videos To Promote New Designer Collabs—Can You Guess Who This Is?

Here’s what we call smart marketing—H&M has announced that it’s getting back into the designer collaboration game … but they won’t say with whom! Yesterday, the company posted two videos to YouTube, each a 20-second interview which avoided revealing the designer’s face. Guesses based on gender, accent, and personal style for these first two so far: Thomas Maier, and possibly Carolina Herrera. (H&M will reveal the answers on September 9.)

There are two new videos up now. The first gives us what should be telling hints—manicured nails and Geisha-like hair style. Except now we’re not sure this designer is Asian because of the misleading accent (we at first thought Vivienne Tam), and after listening a few times, we’re not even sure it’s a woman! Check after the jump for another mystery clip! Guesses? [YouTube] Keep reading »

Next Up: Target And Mulberry Collab

Another day, another designer collab. And yet, we never tire of hearing about them. The latest news: Target has tapped Mulberry (known best for its iconic padlock purse, pictured) to do a line of handbags, due in U.S. stores Oct. 10. This is good news for the collaboration business because Mulberry is a standard luxury label that you might expect to rest on its high horse when it comes to anything “discount”-oriented. But the famed British leathergoods brand’s work with Target just might encourage other super high-fashion entities to do the same. In an ideal world … one day, we’d actually be able to afford Chanel. Fingers crossed. [Stylelist] Keep reading »

Hot Topic Is Doing A Collab With Who? Huh?

When we heard Hot Topic was doing a designer collaboration, we immediately thought, “Oh no.” When we heard that it was with someone named John Eshaya, we thought, “Who?” John Eshaya, it turns out, actually has quite the interesting resume. He created Jet, a clothing brand and subdivision of Fred Segal, the California boutique chain and celeb favorite. He also helped run Ron Herman, another offshoot of the Fred Segal brand. Starting in May, his designs will be sold at Hot Topic and Torrid stores (the plus-sized label). The collection will bring Cali casual with sweatpants and jersey get-ups, which Eshaya says, “is kind of giving the Jet look for these girls that are plus-size and keeping it young and happening, so it is not like they are having to wear stuff that isn’t super cool.” While this sounds super mainstream, we admit that it could be potentially decent.
