ABCNews.com Gets Details Of Zooey Deschanel’s Divorce Slightly Wrong

I love it when you can tell that someone kind of out of touch with pop culture was made to write a pop culture news story. What other explanation could there be for Mikaela Conley thinking Deschanel was married to a guy named “Death Cab” and that she dumped him for “Cutie” frontman, Ben Gibbard? I suspect this error will be corrected shortly, so I felt the need to screengrab it for posterity. [Yahoo! News]

Death Cab For Cutie Wants To Go Home

Death Cab for Cutie albums are almost invariably about longing for something—usually a person. But on Codes and Keys—the first album in three years from Ben Gibbard, Chris Walla, and crew—the wistfulness seems to be directed at an abstraction: home. In fact, the word “home” appears in, oh, almost every song on the album and on my favorite track in particular, “Monday Morning,” Ben spells it out when he sings, “I am a bird that is in need of grounding.” Maybe this is because the band has spent so many years on tour at this point? Or the fact that he’s newly married to the amazing Zooey Deschanel? Whatever it is, the album is great, if a little less anthemic than you expect from Death Cab.

A Bite Of The “New Moon” Soundtrack From Death Cab For Cutie

What could make Seth Cohen and every teenage girl in America squeal at equally loud decibel levels? The fact that a one-minute-and-45-second snippet of the first single from the “New Moon” soundtrack, Death Cab For Cutie’s “Meet Me On The Equinox,” is now available online. The movie doesn’t open until November 20, but if you pre-order the soundtrack now, you can be one of the first to download the whole song during the MTV Video Music Awards this weekend. Judging from the snippet, the song has the perfect wistful vampy vibe. We’re sure the rest of the soundtrack will be dope as well since it’s curated by music director Alexandra Patsavas, the lady who made “The O.C.” and “Twilight” soundtracks so addictive. Rumor has it that Thom Yorke and Kings of Leon will also have ditties on the album. [MTV] Keep reading »

Slideshow: What We’re Reading & Listening To This Month

We here at The Frisky are really into music and reading. Sometimes ours tastes are, um, awesome and we want to share them with you. Sometimes our tastes are terrible (ahem, Sophie Kinsella books and Ashlee Simpson singles), so we’ll probably keep those to ourselves. But after the jump, Emily, Simcha, Catherine, and myself share the cool stuff we’re into this month. Keep reading »

Sweet Release: What’s In And Out The Week Of May 13th 2008

  • While Amy Winehouse has been cracking up, losing the deal to do the Bond theme song with the dapper Mark Ronson, and covering herself in mud instead of clothing, Welsh singer Duffy has been slaving away on the most sublime new soul album. Rockferry, Duffy’s debut record that takes its name from the town her daddy was born in, is a swanky collection of ’60s style R&B songs. Her first single, Mercy, is hip-shaking a-go-go at it’s greatest and it even gets hipsters to strut. We here at The Frisky are totally mad about this Mod! [Amazon: Duffy, Rockferry]
