Viewers are going crazy over the new ABC show “Dating in the Dark” where women and men are forced to get to know each other in the pitch black darkness. After a few dates, they are allowed to see each other without speaking and finally must make the choice of how important looks really are. Here at The Frisky we wish we had time to audition and hop on to one of these fun shows, but sadly we don’t. (Consequently, some of us also have boyfriends who just wouldn’t understand.) Remote Control: What You Should Watch The Week Of July 20th 2009

The good ol’ electronic hearth is serving up a hefty portion of girl-tastic shows this week. Tonight, after “The Bachelorette,” of course, check out “Dating in the Dark.” We also have high hopes for ABC’s new teen music sitcom “Ruby & The Rockits,” which looks like it owes more than a little to “Hannah Montana.” The creepily watchable “Toddlers and Tiaras” also starts this week. And then there’s the season finale of “Southern Belles: Louisville.” Awww, television.

“Dating In The Dark” Wonders If Looks Matter

If my estimates are correct, in three weeks “The Bachelorette” concludes its latest run. What are we going to watch on Monday nights?! Oh don’t worry, ABC knows they have a reality TV dating show void to fill and “Dating In The Dark,” premiering on July 20th at 8 pm, is their latest gimmick. According the ABC.com, “Three single men and three single women move into a house together, and get to know each other and form bonds in total darkness.” The ultimate question — do looks really matter? Um, yes. Which is why they cast realistic, but completely attractive people for this little experiment. In the end, whichever “couples” emerge into the light won’t be disappointed by a schlubby bald guy or a mousy twig with bad teeth at the other end of the hand they’re holding. Still… Keep reading »
