Weekend Wear: Katie Holmes’ Date Night Look

Katie Holmes has had another random moment of style. This time she was snapped returning to her home with Tom Cruise after he spent the day promoting “Knight and Day.” Honestly, that sounds like a day of all work and no play for Katie, but at least she looked good. Come to think of it, wouldn’t this outfit be perfect for a casual date with Tom? Or any serious boyfriend or husband, for that matter? Your guy has seen you dressed to the nines and in your most comfy sick clothes, so for casual date night you only need a pair of sexy jeans, cute heels, and a button-down blouse that’s perfect for exposing the clavicle. Find out how to get Katie’s look after the jump. Keep reading »

Weekend Wear: Renee Zellweger’s Dinner And A Movie Look

Movie theaters and restaurants can feel downright frigid during the summer. That’s great for those who don’t want a high electricity bill but still want to cool off. It sucks, however, for those who get goose bumps from the slightest change in temperature. Renee Zellweger has the perfect outfit for dinner and a movie during a summer night. The ankle-length pants will keep legs toasty and the long-sleeves will do the same for the arms. Notice that the T-shirt is tissue-thin, though, so you won’t overheat while making the trek from the car or train to the door of your destination. Plus, those strappy heels will show off your sexy side. Get the details on how you can re-create Renee’s look after the jump, and don’t forget vibrant lipstick or nail polish for a pop of color. Weekend Wear: Daytime Date Look

Trolling street wear sites like Chictopia is one of my favorite online activities — after online shopping. Like others who are fans of these sites, I get inspiration for my own outfits. User FashionisaPlayground calls this look the “Fair weather sailor,” but I think it’s more suited for a daytime date on land. Although the shorts show off gorgeous gams, the look isn’t tarty because everything else — cleavage, arms, shoulders — is covered. So your date will get a hint of sex appeal but still pay attention to what you’re saying. Plus, the mixing of patterns — stripes and snakeskin — make the neutral palette exciting. Find out how you can get this look after the jump, and if thigh-grazing shorts aren’t your thing, a pair of Bermuda shorts would look just as cute. [Chictopia] Keep reading »

Fashion Nightmare: Wearing The Same Outfit As Your Date

Poor Henry Holland had a bit of an embarrassing encounter, which he detailed on his Twitter: “My date just showed up in the exact jumper i’m wearing. It’s House of Holland. More embarrassing for him i think…” We’d have to agree with Mr. Holland. Poor guy was probably only trying to flatter the designer, and his wardrobe choice completely backfired.

Still, it’s pretty funny to think of this happening, even if you aren’t gay. With all this andro dressing going on, it wouldn’t be an impossibility to come dressed to a date, only to find the same American Apparel sweatshirt staring back at you in the face. Gulp.

Isolated incident? Or has anything like this ever happened to you? [Twitter] Keep reading »

Do You Wear “Conversation Pieces” On Dates?

I know that this might sound like something outdated from a ladymag—but sometimes when getting dressed for a date, I purposefully wear what I call my “conversation piece,” a necklace that belonged to my grandmother. It’s a twisted gold chain that holds an ancient Roman coin pendant. I love this necklace and wear it a lot anyhow, but I’ve also come to find that an unusually high number of guys ask me about it. As the pattern developed, grandma’s necklace has become pretty useful in assessing and creating dialogues with guys when I’m on a date. (If, that is, the subject comes up. I’m not saying I wear this piece of jewelry to fill up pauses in the conversation, like, “Look, look at my necklace! Want to hear about it?”) Keep reading »

What He Wants You To Wear On Valentine’s Day

Every woman has been faced with the dilemma of what to wear on a date. We’ll ask anyone in earshot, including the fitting room attendant, but we hardly ever consult the person who has to accompany us on said date. Thankfully, The New York Post asked men what they want their date to wear on Valentine’s Day. Surprisingly, some got more creative than just saying, “Nothing.” Keep reading »
