I am oddly mesmerized by this baby owl’s bizarre dance moves. Sure, the little guy is adorable, but something about those wide eyes paired with the music is just a little bit odd. Good thing the cute factor (and those lashes) makes up for it! [Tastefully Offensive; Bird Rescue Charitable Trust]
Phillip and Sue Lauer have (at least) two big passions in life: their pugs Roxy, Blue and Bono, and the book/TV series “Game of Thrones.” Naturally, like any decent dog-obsessed nerds with a lot of time of their hands, they’ve meticulously recreated the HBO show with their pups playing the various characters, including Jon Snow, Joffrey Baratheon and Daenarys Targaryen. There’s even a puppy-sized Iron Throne that took two full days to make! Impressive. [Buzzfeed]
Money — and social media pressure — talks! The family who bought a deployed soldier’s dog on Craigslist — without his knowledge — has agreed to return the Shiba Inu named Baxter to the family of his rightful owner. Friends and family of Colorado Army Specialist Robert “Robby” Gabbert say that after mounting social media pressure and a $1,400 reward offer, the family has finally come to their senses and have returned Baxter to them, where he will be cared for until Robby returns from overseas.
Robby had left Baxter in the care of his then-girlfriend, but when he learned she was having issues taking care of the pup, he arranged to have Baxter sent to stay with his parents. Unfortunately, for reasons that still escape me, the girlfriend sold Baxter on Craigslist instead. Initially the family who bought Baxter refused to give him back, as they said their children had “become attached,” but there’s no doubt that the public outcry over this story helped change their tune. (Let’s also hope this story further dissuades people from buying animals on Craigslist. It’s shady as fuck, people.) Here’s to Robby and Baxter being reunited ASAP! [The Daily Dot]
Sweet little chihuahua Josie was sadly born without her front legs, but thanks to the Hanger Orthopedic Group, she’s now got WHEELS. Watching Josie motor around gave me a seemingly endless case of the squees. So awesome. [Vimeo]
As a dog owner — though I really think of myself as a mother to a beautiful dog daughter — this story just breaks my heart. Imagine going out of town and returning to discover that someone you trusted to take care of your beloved pet while you were gone had actually sold that beloved pet instead. That’s what happened to Robby (above), who entrusted his girlfriend with his dog’s care when he was deployed to Afghanistan. Instead, his GF sold his three-year-old Shibu Inu, Baxter, on Craigslist, which has to be the most fucked up thing ever. Robby was able to track down the people who bought Baxter, but the new owners are reluctant to give the dog back because their children have grown “attached.” Keep reading »
What is it about Boston terriers that makes them so damn cute? Bosco the puppy would be fun to hang out with even if he wasn’t having his very first taste of peanut butter alongside his dog buddy Riley. But his utter and complete glee makes him that much more adorable. I get it, Bosco — nothing’s yummier than peanut butter. [Jezebel]
