Dear Wendy: “Why Can’t Women Embrace Their Curves?”

I’m a 19 year-old college student and I recently met a girl at a party who was very pretty, smart and nice. We talked for a good half hour and seemed to be hitting it off. We even exchanged email addresses. Then, things suddenly went downhill. I commented that she had a “really nice, hourglass figure.” I thought she would take it as a compliment but instead she became deeply offended. I went into damage control mode and tried to clarify my comments but I think I only made things worse when I used the term “healthy.” With a look of complete disgust, WHAP!, she slapped my face and departed. As I was standing there alone rubbing my cheek, with my friends nearby laughing at me, I was wondering why she was so offended. She had a classic hourglass figure — quite busty, narrow waist, shapely hips/legs. Why can’t women embrace their curves? Btw, I do have her email address. Do you think I should send her an apology note or should I interpret the slap in the face as another way of saying she does not want to see me again? — Kevin

Mind Of Man: The Types Of Women That Really Turn Us On

I went on a date the other week with a pair of hot Swedish volleyball players with galactic hoots and bodies so taut that quarters bounce off bellies. These buxom hotties could easily have graced the pages of Brodawg Magazine, posing in the rain, wearing only leather belts. As they were putting on their heels to join me in the champagne jacuzzi, it occurred to me that these phantasmagorical sirens weren’t doing it for me. Then I woke up with both of my arms in my pant legs. Cursed margaritas, so tequila-y and delicious. Keep reading »

In this economy, while men are worried about losing their jobs, they’re looking for something to hold onto. And that something is a big ol’ booty! Finally, this gray economic cloud officially has its silver lining, thanks to a recent study conducted at New York University. Their findings confirmed that when times are lean, men tend to describe their ideal mate as extra fatty! Keep reading »

Happy Women Have Curves

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight and drop a dress size or two, you may want to reconsider. In a recent poll in the UK of about 3,000 women, size 14s (a US size 12) rated their happiness higher than everyone else, with about a quarter saying they liked their appearance, half reporting career satisfactions, and a third rating their love lives as the best possible. Size 12 women (a US 10) were the second happiest group of women, with nearly three quarters reporting satisfaction with their friendships and almost half satisfied with their careers. Size 8 (US 6), 16 (US 14), and 10 (US 8) rounded out the happy camp, respectively. Nigella Lawson, a TV cook, thinks the secret to curvy girls’ happiness is a pleasurable sex life, saying: “I do think that women who spend all their lives on a diet probably have a miserable sex life: if your body is the enemy, how can you relax and take pleasure?” Still, not all women with curves are happy with their lives. Those who wear sizes 20-24 (US 18-22) were among those who reported being most unhappy with their lives. Maybe dropping a dress size in the new year isn’t such a bad resolution after all?
