Crystal Renn Eating In French Vogue: Gross Or Glamorous?

French Vogue‘s 90th anniversary issue continues to shock. The editorials inside include this sure-to-inspire-debate series of plus-size model Crystal Renn gorging on squid, slathering herself in spaghetti, and putting away a plate of chicken. To up the controversy, the photographer is Terry Richardson. Personally, I like the photographs — I think they’re beautiful and sort of funny — and after having watched and read multiple interviews with Renn, I find it highly unlikely she’d agree to do it if she wasn’t on board with it. Check out more after the jump and speak your mind in the comments. Keep reading »

Crystal Renn Dances In A Leotard

These days, posting about model Crystal Renn poses something of a conundrum. If we say, “She looks like she lost weight,” it seems as if we’re as preoccupied with her body size as all those who couldn’t stop crowing about her plus-sized-ness when she was a seemingly fuller-figured girl. In any case, we think any woman with enough confidence to bust a move in a nude VPL bodysuit in front of a video camera is worthy of a round of applause. We’re going to make ours now. Crystal Renn’s Face—Not Body—Stars In New Chanel Campaign

Thanks to a few Photoshopping scandals and the still-hot debate about larger sizes in fashion, it’s nearly impossible to talk about Crystal Renn without talking body image. The plus-size/curvy/whatever-you-want-to-call-her model just landed this Chanel campaign, which shows only her face. For Renn, this work with the brand points to a positive shift in fashion aesthetics. She tells Fashionista, “I think the fashion industry is changing and is more open to a new ideal … It’s about a personality and a moment captured..it’s not about body size it’s about talent and effort…I hope the industry sees this [campaign] as an example of that.” Keep reading »

Would You Rather … Have Crystal Renn, Agyness Deyn, Or Heidi Klum’s Body?

Welcome to Would You Rather, a game in which we concoct hypothetical style dilemmas and ask you to choose which option’s worse.

It might not seem like it, but there is quite a bit of variance in model bodies. Take the following, for example: Crystal Renn (the “curvy” model), Heidi Klum (the ’90s swimsuit body, or just “the body”), and the more contemporary Agyness Deyn (the flat-chested, boyish model). If you could have one of these ladies’ physiques, which would you choose and why? Keep reading »

Crystal Renn Says Her Uber-Skinny Photo Was Photoshopped

If you get caught Photoshopping a beautiful, healthy, full-figured woman to look like a twiglet, you should have one of your fingers chopped off. And I think supermodel Crystal Renn will agree: she told Glamour magazine she was “shocked” to see startling photos of her posing for a Fashion for Passion promotion, looking far, far skinnier than her size 10 or 12 plus-size model frame.

These pics were especially troubling given Renn’s hellacious bout with anorexia while trying to be a “straight size” model, which she described doing battle with in her recent memoir, Hungry. Rest assured, Renn has not re-developed her eating disorder. Instead, it’s just that Photoshop has struck again. Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: Crystal Renn’s Agent Assures Everyone She’s Still A Size 10

  • A couple of blogs — including us — noticed that supermodel Crystal Renn, who is fuller-figured and vocal about promoting healthier body images, looks much skinnier in recent pics. But Renn’s agent at Ford models, Gary Dakin, confirmed Renn is a size 10 and is not trying to lose weight. It’s kinda weird that the poor girl’s agent has to talk to the press about what size she is! • Nevada senatorial candidate Sharron Angle believes abortion should be illegal in cases of rape and incest. In a long interview about her views, she described a young girl she knows who was the victim of rape by her father, who was then adopted by new parents. “And they found that they had made what was really a lemon situation into lemonade,” Angle says. [The Huffington Post]
  • Louisiana Senator David Vitter has finally responded to why he let an employee stay on staff for two years after he allegedly beat his girlfriend. So if Brent Furer allegedly beat his girlfriend, why was he assigned to work on women’s issues? He wasn’t, says Vitter. Brent Furer only worked on abortion issues, not women’s issues. Ah, OK. Today’s Lady News: UVA Warns Against Attacks By Strangers & Crystal Renn Walks For Chanel

  • Yeardley Love, the UVA lacrosse player found dead in her apartment over a week ago, was laid to rest this weekend. Her on-again/off-again boyfriend, George Huguely, was arrested and charged with first degree murder. While he has not been convicted — though his lawyer has already said that Love’s death was “an accident,” which does imply Huguely played a role — all evidence points to the fact that Love was killed by someone she knew. So why, wonders The Sexist, is UVA responding to this tragedy by warning students against crimes committed by strangers? [The Sexist]
  • The 16-year-old who brought rape charges against former football star Lawrence Taylor says that she’s a huge Giants fan, but didn’t recognize the former player. Also, she’s “conflicted” about what she wants to see happen to him, because “after all, he’s in the Hall of Fame and he won two Super Bowls.” My head is in my hands, people. [NY Daily News]
  • Plus-size model Crystal Renn is supposedly walking in Chanel’s 2011 Resort runway show tomorrow in Cannes, even though head designer Karl Lagerfeld quite recently said “no one wants to see curvy women.” Lagerfeld appears to be eating something — his words. [Fashionologie]
