Not to get all geeky on you guys, but did y’all catch “American Idol” last night? The competition’s down to three people, two of whom have a real shot at long-lasting careers post-”Idol.” One of those two is Lee DeWyze, the cute, sensitive rocker-type from Chicago. I didn’t really notice Lee too much at first — my favorite was always Crystal Bowersox, his main competitor — but he’s been really growing on me over the last few weeks. His rendition last night of “Hallelujah” was, to quote judge Ellen DeGeneres, “stunning.” It will definitely be one of the moments people remember this season by. Two “American Idol” Performances That Actually Inspired Me

I cringed a little when Ryan Seacrest announced last night that it was “Inspiration Week” on “American Idol.” It’s something they started a few years back to coincide with their “Idol Gives Back” charity mission. Although I think it’s a nice concept, the performances usually stink. The cheese factor goes way up and originality factor goes out the window as the contestants struggle to make their song moving and meaningful. Blech. For the most part, that’s exactly what happened on last night’s show—it was full of songs that I had to fast forward through, like “I Believe I Can Fly.” Pleasekillmenow. But there were two performances that actually inspired me. One in particular had me cuddled up with my box of Kleenex. I can only describe Crystal Bowersox’s rendition of the gospel hit “People Get Ready” as legendary. Keep reading »

Why I’m Voting For “American Idol” Contestant Crystal Bowersox

The ladyfolk really redeemed themselves last night on “American Idol.” I was impressed by Lilly Cole’s rendition of “A Change Is Gonna Come.” I was moved by Katelyn Epperly’s crooning version of Coldplay’s “The Scientist.” And I am still a fan of resident oddball, Siobahn Magnus, who devoured Aretha Franklin’s “Freedom.” But there is one contestant I am totally in awe of … Crystal Bowersox. As many of you know, the men and women switched nights this week because Crystal was severely ill in the hospital. They didn’t tell us why, but it sounded very serious.
